| Barry was born in New Plymouth, 1942, soon moving to Palmerston North to play with the local brass band. When he found that good banjo players were very rare, he bought a banjo not realising that he would become the butt of every muso joke ever written. The early 70s saw him playing with Dougie Allen's Eureka Jazzmen in Auckland. In 1976 he was playing in Sydney with the Kings Cross "Showbiz" Band. Back in Auckland 1980 playing double bass with the Riverboat Ramblers. In 1985 he created the Chicago Jazzmen and has never looked back. He is still to play bugle for the RSA on Anzac Day and sometimes plays cornet when he thinks nobody is listening. |
