Game 2: Diablos at Orioles
April 17th
The Orioles were the Diablos opponent for the second game of the opening day doubleheader.
The Diablos broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the fourth when Eric Ricken singled, stole second, stole third, and scored on a botched pick-off play at first.
The Diablos extended the lead to two runs with great teamwork in the top of the seventh.
Lawrence Sanchez singled, moved to second on a sacrifice by Dave Gueder, and scored on a single by Cole Graveen.
The insurance run proved to be crucial as poor defense by the Diablos in the bottom of the ninth allowed the Orioles to pull within one-run and put runners on first and second with two outs.
Gueder relieved Kevin Jenkins and forced a ground-ball to second to end the game. Jenkins pitched 8-2/3 innings allowing 3 runs, 1 earned, while striking-out ten.
Jenkins was the recipient of great outfield play as Gueder threw-out a runner at home and Ricken threw to Bryce Basara to nab an Oriole runner straying too far off second after a ground-ball through the infield.
