ADA Protest at the Federal Building,
230 S. Dearborn, Chicago at 12 noon!
Chicago ADAPT demonstrated against the 7th Circuit Court's recent attack of Title II of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). Fighting for human rights!
Report posted Tuesday evening, April 25, 2000
Our persistance paid of this afternoon as we, a group of about 45 ADAPT members from Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin, marched and chanted around the Federal buildings of Chicago slowly making our way to the James R. Thompson Center, office of our beloved Illinois Attorney General, Jim Ryan. We chanted, howled, and echoed our voices from the 12th floor throughout the Center of 28 floors. We were not leaving without a confirmed meeting date with Ryan, to discuss the attacks that have been made on the ADA, in which he was a big part of.
Kevin Irvine, our chant leader of the day, and one of the persons that helped put this rally together, finally gained some headway and was invited back to an office behind the scenes, joined by another ADAPT member Mike Ervin, while the rest of us waited patiently out in the lobby.
They emerged with smiles and were happy to announce that we nailed down a meeting with Ryan on Thursday, May 11, 2000, 1:00 pm. We'll let you know what comes of that meeting.
