Note: If you like what you see, and are thinking of saving it for your own enjoyment later on, then I should warn you that I can't offer you any promises as to how long it will remain up. Any given series of images should be up for at least a few months, barring unforseen circumstances, but beyond that I can't say. As I do with every page I write, I've submitted this to the Internet Archive, and maybe the item that you want will get in, but the Archive's track record of saving images is "hit or miss" at best. If you rely on it, you might be disappointed.

As much as I'd like to keep these pictures up indefinitely, as I tend to do with printed material, please keep in mind that pictures eat up serious diskspace. Back before I started making use of the image hosting services, most of my diskspace allotment was being eaten up by this single article, so I would have had no choice but to periodically replace this material, were I to update this gallery at all. Even if those services stay in business, and I'm not sure of how they manage to do so, working with them only increases the amount of diskspace available to me, and not by so much that I won't hit my head against the virtual ceiling in the forseeable future, should I continue shooting. Looking at the ratio of bandwidth to diskspace, I have to conclude that I shouldn't even think of trying to half fill that space, much less fill it entirely, anyway.

Saving what you want will be your responsibility. As much as I'd like to offer to send copies of past pictures to those who ask for them, but think about it for a second - how does one specify exactly the photo one wants? By file number? How many people do you know who are going to reliably remember a thing like that?

It's not that I want to be a hard nosed, uncooperative pain in the backside, but on thinking about it, I just realized that the offer to do this would threaten to become an endless, frustrating drain on my time. Picture somebody writing back and going "gee, I thought it was image 35, maybe it was item 36", and this going on all day, either because people are honestly (and understandably) uncertain or, because as is hardly rare online, I've just run into yet another group of people who live for "irritainment". (That's net twit for "being annoying in a time consuming way for your target because you think that it's funny"; ie. being Tom Green wannabees, en masse). The best that I can do is submit the images individually, and maintain links to past copies of this page in the aforementioned archive. I hope that's good enough, and offer my regrets if it isn't.

All photos are copyrighted by me, Joseph Dunphy, all rights reserved, and may not be reproduced in whole or part without my express written permission, which to be honest, I probably won't give. However, if there is interest, I might set up a stock image gallery elsewhere on my pages, interest being gauged in part by noting how many people are linking to this gallery. I'll wait to see before acting, as serving a fan club I don't have would be a little silly on my part. If I do start seeing more signs of interest, though, I might put up some images of the Loop and some of the other "touristy" things that people want pictures of, for their sites. No payment or memberships will be involved, just prior permission and a linkback on the page where the image appears. We can go into the specifics later, if this becomes an issue.
