Inu-Yasha is a half-demon (A human mother, a demon father) who wants to use the Shikon no Tama to become a full demon. He fell in love with a priestess who, thinking he had betrayed her, pinned him to a tree with an arrow, where he stayed for fifty years until Kagome pulls the arrow out. He likes to put on a tough exterior but he'll protect all of his friends and is really very soft inside whether he'll admit it or not, which he won't do, so I'm admitting it for him ^_^.
Kagome: Just your average teenage girl...Well, as average as you can get, being the reincarnation of a powerful priestess that is. Her whole life changed when she was pulled into the Bone Eaters Well. Now she's on a mission to gather all of the shards of the Jewel of Four Souls with a half-demon, a monk, a youkai (demon) exterminator, and a little kitsune (fox demon), kicking demons' butts along the way, while trying not to get killed and trying to keep her grades up. Can her life get any more normal?
This mischeivous little kitsune's favorite pastime is poking fun at Inu-Yasha and just causing mischief where he can. He has shape-changing abilities that get him into some trouble and he doesn't understand why Inu-Yasha and Kagome don't bathe together. His father was killed by the Thunder Brothers, Hiten and Manten, so now he's tagging along with Kagome and Inu-Yasha!
Miroku is a monk with...questionable morals, to put it lightly. His grandfather was lecherous and Miroku seems to have inherited that trait from him. He used to hit on Kagome, asking her to bear his child, much to Inu-Yasha's annoyance, but ever since Sango came along, he seems to have moved on from Kagome. He seems to take rejection very well...He has a void in his right hand that can suck things into it, given to his grandfather by Naraku. Only when Naraku is killed, is the curse lifted.
Since I've only seen two episodes with Sango in them, I don't know much about her personality wise, but I know that while she and the best exterminators were out, her village was destroyed and Kohaku, her little brother, became possessed by a demon and slew their father and the other great exterminators. He also tried to kill Sango. Naraku told her that Inu-Yasha had destroyed her village, and, after finding out that Naraku had lied to her, she decided to join Inu-Yasha and the group in their mission. Now Kohaku is one of Naraku's puppets. Her weapon is a huge boomerang. She shouts "Hiraikotsu" in the Japanese episodes and I don't remember what she says in the English episodes, if she says anything. If I remember right, I think she just throws it in the English episodes without saying anything, but I don't remember.
Kikyo is the priestess who pinned Inu-Yasha to the tree for fifty years, thinking he had betrayed her. It was really Naraku who tricked both Inu-Yasha and Kikyo into hating each other so that the Shikon Jewel, which was in Kikyo's possession, become tainted with hate. He killed Kikyo, disguised as Inu-Yasha.  She is resurrected by Urasue and later tries to drag Inu-Yasha down to Hell with her.
Sesshoumaru is Inu-Yasha's half brother through the same father. He doesn't like mortals and certainly doesn't like half-breeds. Sesshoumaru is full dog demon. He wants the Tetsusaiga, their father's demon blade, said to be carved from their father's own fang, but, being a full-blooded demon, the blade won't allow him to wield it. Later, when Sesshoumaru borrows a human arm to replace the one Inu-Yasha cut off in a battle, and is able to use the Tetsusaiga, but Inu-Yasha kicks his butt anyway ^_^.
And this little guy is Myoga the flea. He was the one who was to protect Inu-Yasha's fathre's grave. He is very knowledgeble in the area of demons and such, but at the first sign of danger or a fight, Myoga high-tails it outta there.
This shifty lookin' fella is Jaken, Sesshoumaru's crony. Unlike Myoga, Inu-Yasha's cowardly crony, Jaken is always ready to do Sesshoumaru's dirty work for him. I think he's some sort of toad demon but you can never be too sure ^_^. In one episode, I think Kagome's steps on him twice and then Miroku, in another episode, pounds him to a pulp. That's not important to his character but I thought it was funny so I put it in here.
I couldn't find a good picture of Naraku so I made one ^_^ I'll find one soon so the question mark picture is only temporary. Naraku is the bad guy in the Inu-Yasha series. I think that his name literally just means "Hell" but I don't remember. He is the one who tricked Kikyo and Inu-Yasha into hating each other so that the Shikon no Tama would be tainted with hate. He wanted it to be evil and more powerful. He used to be a thief named Onigumo but his soul was devoured by demons. He likes to mess with people's feelings like when he made Inu-Yasha and Kikyo hate each other and made Kohaku kill his father and and all of the other exterminators. He also tricked Sango into trying to kill Inu-Yasha by telling her that he was the one who destroyed her village when, in fact, Naraku was the one who attacked it.
