Piccolo is a Namek-sei-jin, a native of the Planet Namek. He was conceived as an egg by Piccolo Daimao (Nameks are asexual), one of two beings created when the original Piccolo separated himself into good and evil. Piccolo wears an Indian-style hat and a cape, both of which weigh substantially. He does this so as to constant train himself against whichever opponents he may have to encounter in the future. Piccolo was born in the original DB series with only one goal in mind, to revenge the death of his evil father by killing Son Goku. Although he fought on par with Goku during the DB series and almost managed to kill him, the gap between the two fighters power levels increases during the Saiyan Saga in the DBZ series. The death of Goku, the strongest being on Planet Earth and the arrival of two fiercely strong Saiyans named Vegeta and Nappa in just one year makes Piccolo anxious about his original plan to conquer and rule the world. He decides to abandon that idea temporarily and volunteers to train Son Gohan. Through his stringent training, Piccolo transforms Gohan from a cry baby into a much more independent fighter. He even develops a love for Gohan as a friend while watching over him in the wilderness. During this time, his evil decreases and we see that Piccolo is not entirely bent on world domination, as had been his father. During the fight with Nappa, Piccolo showed extraordinary strength and was the strongest of the Z Fighters before the return of Goku. Although he could not even inflict any heavy damage on Nappa, he showed his skillfulness in fighting and intelligent thinking when he devised the plan of grabbing Nappas tail in a hope that doing so would make him vulnerable to Gohans attacks. Instead of seeing Gohan die by a powerful blast from Nappa, he stood directly in front of Gohan and took the blast head on. And so, Piccolo dies along with Kamisama and the DBs disappear as well.

In the afterlife, Piccolo soon arrives with the other dead Z Fighters (Tien, Chaozu, and Yamcha) on King Kais little planet. Despite Piccolos antisocial attitude and his proud sense of superiority over the others, he learns the importance of training continually and does so while Goku and the others are fighting on Namek. He gets wished back to life and brought to Namek just before Freeza is about to appear. By the time Piccolo arrives at the battle site, Freeza has already transformed once. Despite the fact that Freeza is slightly stronger than he is, Piccolo utilizes Nails power (he fused with Nail along the way) effectively and uses his unique ability to read attacks rapidly to force Freeza to transform one more time. Third-Form Freeza is more than a match for Piccolo, however, and he is beaten badly. Although he gets wounded severely in the ensuing beat-up, he still manages to save Gohan from a deadly blast that Freeza turned back at the Saiyan. Later on, he stalls Freeza briefly so that Goku can finish gathering the energy for his massive Genki Dama. The extent of his transformation into a better being who cares for others is seen when he pushes Goku out of the path of Freezas beam and takes the deadly shot for him instead. Piccolo is severely injured but not dead yet. Dende manages to heal him when the entire crew gets teleported to Earth. When Vegeta tries to kill Gohan in a short, little fight, Piccolo appears behind the Saiyan Prince and stops him.

During the three years prior to the Android Saga, Piccolo undergoes some intensive training (including midair meditation by a waterfall). His power level increases dramatically and it seems that Piccolo has become some sort of Super Namek-sei-jin by the time he confronts Androids 19 and 20. He allows 20 to catch him in an arm and leg lock and to absorb his so that Gohan, Krillin, Tien, and Vegeta could hone in on 20s position. Piccolos improved fighting abilities are seen in his brief fight with 20, where he manages to chop off one of 20s hands. Although he is no match for Android 17, he again shows resourceful thinking when he decides to go to Skypalace to fuse with Kamisama. He does and gains an enormous power increase, enough to make him an equal match to 17. Hoping to stall the androids before they can find and kill Goku, he fights 17 and shows off his new power in the battle. Again, however, Piccolo meets his match in the newly improved Cell, who has absorbed enough humans to raise his power level to an even higher level than any of the androids (other than 16) and Piccolo. Piccolo gets beaten up and thrown into the water with a broken neck. He is rescued later by Son Goku with his Shinkai Idou technique and healed with a Senzu bean.

Although Piccolo is unable to fight Cell as the green monster inches closer and closer to perfection by absorbing 17 and later 18, he observes the progress of the conflict between the androids and Cell, and the fight with Super Vegeta and Super Trunks at Skypalace. Right before the Cell Games when Cell has acquired perfection, he trains himself, along with the other stronger Z Fighters, in the Room of Spirit and Time. Although he could never compare with the endurance and power of the Saiya-jin, he still proved a formidable foe during the battle with Cell. Even when Tien and Yamcha were down, and Super Vegeta and Super Trunks were getting beaten up by the Cell Jr.s, he manages to fight the Cell Jr.s as best as possible as does relatively well when taking his power level into consideration. Later on, when Gohan is having trouble in the Kamehameha battle with Ultra Perfect Cell, Piccolo flies into the fight by firing a Gekiro at Cell. Although it has has no effect, he comes back shortly after with a Makankosappo and other energy blasts, motivating Tien, Yamcha, and Krillin to help Gohan against Cell also. (If Piccolo hadnt decided to protect Gohan, Vegeta would probably never have fired the big bang attack at Cell, which was the very attack that focused Cells attention away from the Kamehameha battle long enough for Gohan to pump all his energy into his blast and vaporize Cell.)

Piccolo plays a different role in the Boo Saga. As he has been far surpassed by the Saiya-jin and cannot compare with many of the villains that appear to threaten the welfare of Earth, he takes on the role of trainer and advisor for Goten and Trunks. He trains the two kids at the Fusion Dance so that the two could fuse in a hope to defeat Boo. During the fight between Gotenks and Super Boo in the Room of Spirit and Time, Piccolo destroys the door to the Room in an attempt to seal Boo forever away from the Earthly dimension. He underestimates Boos strength, however, and the pink villain escapes through an inter-dimensional hole created in the Room by his high-pitched screams. Piccolo is close to Gotenks as he fights Super Boo all the way until Mystic Gohan arrives on Earth and guides the two kids to some extent during the battle. He is absorbed later by Boo while being unaware of a piece of Boos body sneaking up behind him and gets trapped inside Boos body. Later on, when Vegetto forms and enters Boos body, Piccolo is released from Boos body by Goku and Vegeta and carried to safety outside. Piccolo dies a second time when Kid Boo decides to blow up the Earth and is pretty much gone until the near end of the Boo Saga, when the DBs are used to wish back everyone on Earth and Earth itself.

Attacks/Techniques
- Makankosappo a highly condensed beam of energy (actually composed of two beams, one that resembles a screw, and one that goes right through the middle of the screw blast), first seen in the Raditz battle
- Gekiro a highly powerful blast of energy that is charged by cupping the hands together (much like Tenshinhans Kikouho stance), first seen in the battle with Nonperfect Cell after the fight with 17
- [Name unknown] - An attack where he surrounds his opponent with fireballs and closes them in on the opponent all at once, only seen in the battle with 17
- Namekian Fusion the ability to fuse with other Namek-sei-jin, first seen in the fusion between Piccolo and Nail
- Body/Limb Regeneration Piccolos ability to regenerate body parts as long as head is intact, first seen in the DB series; the fight with Raditz in the DBZ series
- Super-Size Technique Piccolos ability to increase his body size (similar to Saiyans transformation into the Oozaru state), only seen in the DB series
- Arm Extension Namekian ability to elongate ones arms, first seen in the DB series; the fight with Raditz in the DBZ series
- Multiform ability to divide oneself into two to four separate entities, each identical to the original one (power level is divided evenly among each entity as well), first seen during Piccolo's wilderness training before arrival of Vegeta and Nappa

Piccolo's Ages in All Three DB series

Piccolo was a child all the way until the end of the Freeza Saga. He was a teenager during the "Mirai Trunks Saga," and the Android and Cell Sagas. Interesting Note on Piccolo
Even though Piccolo changed from a cold-hearted fighter to a friendly ally on the side of good during the DBZ series, we see him in Hell in the last episode of DBGT (ep 64). Piccolo was originally sent to Heaven but was transferred to Hell by Enma Daiou because he was literally blasting away souls in Heaven in the DBGT era in order to go to Hell and assist "Chibi Goku" in battling Cell and Freeza.
