| "Wha?" Angel was taken aback. I could see her now; and I could read the surprised expression on her face. She wasn't expecting me to rebound with as much strength as I did now. Powering through the air, I focused all of my strength into my hands and fired two separate beams of pure white energy. The blast was so strong it knocked her straight out of the air. Before she could fall below my altitude, I grabbed her, swung her around in the air, and hurled her with all my might towards the ground. And just to make sure she wouldn't try her flying trick, I fired what I swear to be the biggest Pyrobeam I ever fired in my life. Angel was rocked from above by the beam and collided into the ground. But I didn't stop there. Using my wings to control my fall, I flew straight down towards where she landed and fell knee first straight into her stomach. I knocked all the wind out of her, making her nearly lose consciousness. Then, landing back onto my feet, I gave her a vicious kick in the side, sending her flying. Now for the finale. I began, charging my hands together with an incredible energy. I poured every last single ounce of energy left in my body into that attack, which for now was just a brilliant ball of yellow energy between my palms. But to my surprise, Angel twisted around in the air, slowed her momentum with her flying technique, and raised both arms in the air, her body radiating blue energy like a sun. No matter. I was firing the attack and no matter what she was planning on launching, she wasn't stopping me. "HYPER BEAM!" I fired my strongest attack at my disposal. The beam ripped through the air, creating sonic booms in it's wake. I never tried the Hyper Beam at maximum power before, and trying it for the first time was incredible. I was never aware that I was capable of such power. Moving at an incredible speed, the beam caught up to Angel in no time at all. But by this time Angel was already launching-- "SHOCKWAVE THUNDER!" I can't even began to explain the ferocity in which the attack was launched. The entire colloseum, which before was pretty bright, became dim in comparison to the light show Angel began to perform. The air, which originally at first was cool and comfortable, was now extremely hot and alive with static. My hair was standing on end, my wings were beginning to fritz; what level of power was this attack? But that was nothing compared to when her body, which was at first just resembled a scary blue glowing person, turned into something that resembled a neutron bomb going off. Her body flashed like a 10,000 watt light bulb, and instantly, like nightmarish fingers of hell, lightning bolts of tremendous size exploded out of her body like horrific streamers and hit everything. Everything. My Hyper Beam warped the lightning bolts around it, but met resistance when impacting on Angel's body. Still, it made a good direct hit, creating an even more massive explosion than the Shockwave Thunder going off. But the Shockwave Thunder attack was still wreaking havoc across the entire field. The bolts hit the ground and blew the platform that we were standing on to gravel. Everywhere a bolt hit, something was destroyed. Another flew and hit the monitor screen that hovered above the ring. It exploded and fell towards the ground, but halfway down another bolt ripped through it and literally turned it to ash. Then that's when the Shockwave Thunder attack caught up to me. My body was rocked by thousands, millions of volts. Debris flew up from the dying platform and struck every part of my body at incredible speeds, creating scratches and bruises all over me. I was surprised once more at how much an electric attack actually hurt me. This Angel girl was good; there was no doubt about that. Parts of my Hyper Beam that the bolts hit scattered off from the rest of the beam, striking more of the platform and destroying it instantaneously. More thunderbolts hit the shield that protected the audience, and to everyone's amazement and dismay, the protective shield for the audience actually broke. An entire energy defense system. Destroyed by two colliding attacks. And to top it off, energy from my Hyper Beam attack and from Angel's Shockwave Thunder were still scattering off from the blast zone, striking and destroying anything it landed on. "The shield broke down!" One frightened spectator yelled. "Let's get out of here! These maniacs will kill us if they keep it up!" "Get off! I can't get out of my seat!" A panic began to arise in the audience as hundreds of people tried to flee the coliseum, fearing for their lives. "Audience, please do not panic!" Papria lady tried to shout over the screaming mob of people. "Please exit in an according manner to the outside of the coliseum where you will wait in hallway B-12. Once more, please do not panic! This match is now postponed. Do you hear this, fighters? This match is postponed until further notice." I stood still on the ground, focusing back to where I had fired my attack. My body was beyond weak. I could barely stand, and my energy reserves were literally at zero. It would take at least a good day to regenerate all of my lost strength, even with my regenerative powers. Angel was kneeling on the ground, struggling to catch her breath. Sweat ran down her face, and there was a small trail of blood running from her mouth. Her hair was a mess, and her body looked pretty thrashed. But then again, I looked pretty horrible myself. The outfit I had been wearing was ruined. My shirt hung to my body by only a few simple threads of cloth, and everything else had a shred in it somewhere. A thin trail of blood ran from my forehead, but the wound for the cut had already closed. Raising her head slowly, she glared at me with her eyes. I looked back at her, and for the next minute or so, we stood (or rather kneeled for her) staring at each other. After a while, I noticed a small smile began to form on her face. Then, struggling, she slowly stood to her feet, still looking at me. I looked around to view the rest of the coliseum, or what was left of it. The battlefield was literally gone; there was nothing left but blasted rubble. The audience stand was slightly damaged, and the ground surrounding the "platform" itself was battle scarred and barren. "Due to the condition of the field, by S.C.I. official rules, the tournament will resume in exactly half an hour," Papria once again began to announce across the speaker system. "Both fighters will have ample time to replenish their energy. The rules will be based on a no-platform ruling system. First one to K.O. the other will be declared the winner." "That order is sustained." A stranger's voice called. But it wasn't an announced voice. It was close. Like in the coliseum type close. I located the sound quite quickly with my super-sensitive hearing. Standing to the right of me no more than twenty feet away was a tall man dressed in what appeared to be the clothes of a high official or something. He wore jet black boots and matching jet black pants in combination with a jacket with the S.C.I. insignia on the front of it. There were metal studs and chains attached to the coat as well, and underneath he wore a black shirt with the picture of a type of tyrant lizard I couldn't identify. Even though it doesn't sound like it, the style of dress was quite conservative, and by the way he carried himself and the style of the jacket, I could tell he was pretty important. "Uh, excuse me? Who might you be sir? We clearly said that under no circumstances was anyone to enter the coliseum--" "Not even if I created it?" The curious man questioned, shifting his glare from me to the info-view room. For a moment, there was silence. Then, very suddenly, a man came rushing through the coliseum doors. I recognized him as being the head of Aragwin Academy; or basically put, our principal. Well, in a sense. "Sir, I mean, Lord Morrin, you're here? I mean, of course you're here, but why are you here?" Lord Morrin? Who was that? "Ease yourself, Devry. I've merely only come to witness my new potentials." "Ah, yes, I can see. Because of the preliminaries. They are almost over now, sir. However, if you wish, I have some spectacular--" "No need, Devry. I've caught all of the preliminaries up until this point on digital relay in the hovercraft on my way over here." Devry smiled. "It is an honor to have this gracious visit of you here, sir. But what makes you come all the way to this one? The same tournament is being held at academies much closer to the main S.C.I. headquarters, so why come all the way to this one?" That's when Morrin turned his gaze towards me. "Unlike anywhere else, you happen to be raising some students that... appeal to me. These two in particular." He said, shifting his glance from me, to Angel, then back to me again. "Yes. Indeed, they are quite amazing for their age. Would you like for them to--" "For right now I would be appeased if you would call the tournament now." Morrin casually remarked. "Call the tournament? Sir, they still have not yet finished--" "I said, I would appreciate it if you would call the tournament, Devry." Morrin repeated himself, this time turning his full gaze towards Devry. Devry seemed to flinch inwardly a little, and then turning away from Morrin, he called over to the info-view room, "The tournament has been called. We will not finish the last match of the preliminaries." "Are you serious? After all of this?" Papria called over the intercom system. "Please, do not argue. Just escort the rest of the audience back to where they belong and I'll handle things out here." Devry called out. "If you say so," Papria dimly responded. She was most likely now reporting to the rest of the audience where they should go. S.C.I. security would probably escort them all back to either their dorm rooms or back to the vehicles that brought the visitors here. "Amarene and Angel." Morrin said, turning to look at us both. We turned to look at him, curious as to what the intentions of this strange man's visit were. "I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but you two are remarkable fighters," He continued, keeping his penetrating eyes on us both. "I'm sorry to intrude on your battle, but if I had to decide between you two who was to be elected to the S.C.I. elite class, I don't think I could. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Lord Morrin Reeves, and I am the head of the entire S.C.I. organization. |
