| Reiki is made up of two words; Rei, and Ki. Rei: a oversimplified translation would be "Universal Energy" Something that "is" beyond our rational capabilities. For some this describes the concept of Spiritual Knowledge, or Wisdom derived from God (for those of you who believe in God) or the fountain of universal creation. It is that Energy that permeates every atom in the Universe. Ki: it is the life force. This also is a form of Energy, and more in particular the one that travels through all *animate things and it envelopes them. It is what gives us life. The life force permeates the body, soul, thoughts and emotions all included. Then REIKI is the Universal Life Force guided spiritually. It is an intelligent Energy that comes from a Superior Spring, It channels through the body and brings Love, Light, and Heeling. *Animate - This is the only word changed from it's original translation. It was changed from the word "living" to "animate"because I believe that all things have a spiritual connection. A quote from my book "The Day of the Daughter" "Spiritualism, to the people of the land, refers to a sense of animism and of power being resident in everything. No object is merely physical; every object possesses a spiritual component. Spiritual components are linked interactively throughout the spirit world. So, every object can influence other objects and also has sensitivity to their influence.� This is a strong belief within the Native American society and I couldn't agree more. �REIKI is the Universal Life force guided spiritually. It is an intelligent Energy that comes from a Superior Spring, It channels through the body and brings Love, Light, and Healing. All this in effect is very spiritual, but it is very important to emphasize that REIKI is not a religion, nor is it a political movement. It may be practiced by all, regardless of age, religion, cultural level, social standing, personal beliefs, etc. It is an extremely simple technique, and as important as it is to know the mechanism for best utilization of the craft, there is very little to learn. The Master does not "teach" Reiki rather He/she activates it in the person who desires it.
