Minutes: October 13, 2008 Call to Order: 7:02 p.m. Welcome: President Robert Wingo welcomed everyone and asked for all to sign in. Minutes: Minutes for September are available for anyone who needs them. A motion was made and seconded to accept minutes as presented. Treasurer�s Report: Cheryl Littlefield reported a balance of $27,004.44. Payment was made to DMEA for state band try-outs. Cheryl has created a form for all money that is received and deposited. The form will be signed twice for everyone�s protection. Heidi will be sending cash receipts to students for any payment received. Student Account Report: Heidi Dukes has the student account balances posted for all. Current balance is $28,204.49. A motion was made and seconded to accept the treasurer�s report. Director�s Report Choir - Gail Kelso Gail Kelso reported a total of 96 students. There were 25 students who graduated last year and there are currently no 9th grade boys enrolled. There are 22 students who are trying out for all state Choir. A representative from the choir and band counsel will be present at each month�s meeting. Holly Hines (band) and Kathryn Bitter (choir) were in attendance for tonight�s meeting. In regards to the trip, Gail would like to see a less expensive trip. She continues to work with Mr. Barbarita to determine the exact destination for this year. Gail also wanted to express her thanks to Kristen Dukes for speaking up during choir as to the importance of the fund raisers, in particular the fruit and flowers. Band - Rob Barbarita Band Day - Mr. Barbarita expressed his thanks to all who participated and all parents who helped with the University of Delaware Band Day. He feels that the students really enjoyed the experience of playing with 18 other bands and looks forward to next year when we could possibly add tailgating to the day. State Band - We have a total of 7 students trying out for all state band. (5 from regular band and 2 from jazz band) Cheryl delivered the applications to the UPS store today to ensure that we have the correct postmark. Band Trip - There are expense concerns in regards to the band trip. There are several possibilities for this year, including a cruise and two different dates that will be determined soon. Gail added that there is a possibility of the 1st weekend in May, but is not yet confirmed. Parents did interject the possible conflict with sports may occur. Football Game Performance - A discussion was held during class in regards to the rules and expectations of performances. A list was sent home as well. Mr. Barbarita noted that he has seen a major improvement in the stands with the students behavior. Mr. Barbarita was considering allowing the students to wear costumes to the football game on Halloween night, however, we do not allow the wearing of costumes in our=2 0stadium and will probably not be allowed at Dover. Sea Witch - Parade will be on October 25th. Buses will leave the school at 9:00 a.m. and meet in the convention hall parking lot in Rehoboth. Jazz Festival - We will not be attending the jazz festival this year due to other commitments. The jazz band will be playing at Rehoboth Elementary on Friday morning. Homecoming - Students are to be at the school no later than 4:00 p.m. to prepare for the parade. There will be 1 bus transporting to the boat ramp, starting at 4:30. Parents who wish to drop their children at the boat ramp must do so no later than 5:00 p.m. Parade step off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Phone Tree - Discussions were made in regards to the ph one tree and it was recommended that we also institute an e-mail notification. Mrs. Flowers has volunteered to handle the e-mail notification. |
