Minutes June 11, 2007
The meeting was brought to order shortly after 7pm.  A motion was made to have the minutes accepted, seconded, and approved.

Treasurers Report
Rama Peri reported that this months report will show a difference in the virtual and the actual accounts because of 2 returned checks.  The actual accounts is where our money sits within the bank, the virtual accounts is where our money is designated to be spent.
Rama also advised that we do not have the money in the General Fund to honor the Senior Recognition Award that was started last year.  This award was designed to give every senior band and music student $25.00 for each year that they participated in a music program.  This year there are 43 seniors which could technically mean $4,300.00 if each senior was in either band or choir for all 4 years.  The General Funds Account presently holds only $3,018.45 not enough to satisfy these awards.  Mr. Eli reminded us that we have already voted to send 2 students to Drum Major camp at the cost of $400.00 each which is also drawn from the General Fund.  Due to the lack of sufficient funds it was voted to discontinue this Award beginning with the graduating seniors of 2007, and not to renew it in the future.
Within the virtual accounts, the Student Accounts holds $13,425.94, in the General Fund there is $3,018.45, in the Rifle Fund $4.73, and the Scholarship Fund has $836.86.  In the actual bank accounts we presently have in Checking $8,739.71, in the Money Market there is 7,828.41, and in the Scholarship Account there is $838.86.

Student Accounts
A student accounts report was not available at this meeting.

Directors Report
Barry Eli reported that both middle schools have been asked for a commitment to the Ninth Grade Band for the fall and thus far 49 students have responded.  It does look as if Band will continue to grow.  In fact, Ken Schlieffers Milton Elementary Band had 76 members performing in their spring concert.

Jazz Band is still receiving kudos for the spring performances they made, and requests for future performances continue to be received.   Pending are another concert at Baywoods and an August performance in Milton.
The Winter Trip to England is no longer considered to be a viable possibility for this next year.  Conflicts between England and our band on who will go in addition to travel time restrictions are hindering the trip.  In place of this trip, an adjudicated trip to Cleveland is being explored.  In addition, Mr. Yore has given permission for the band to take 2 trips per year, however coordinating this might prove daunting.    Choir has already stated they will not be traveling with the band and will be pursuing their own trip.

Web Sites have been set up for each curriculum discipline within the Cape Henlopen School District new web site http://www.capehenlopenschools.com/chhs .
When you go into this web site click on classrooms, then click on Music, and then click on B. Eli.  Mr. Eli is just in the building stages of his web page, but please add this to your favorites list.
Gail Kelso was unavailable for a report on Choir.

Old Business
Strawberries Connie Holdridge reported that the students raised a total of $1,045.33 to be added to their individual student accounts.  She reported for future reference that an additional 159 pounds was ordered with the hopes of selling and offsetting the cost of the truck to transport the berries here.  Not only was this accomplished, but many more could have been sold. All were sold quickly and in one day.  She thanked PJ Hopkins and Star Leavel for all of their help.
Jackets Lisa Bales advised that a disappointing order is being submitted to Mugs and Stitches for only 9 Choirs jackets and 4 band jackets.  There is hope that more orders can be generated at the Band Camp to be held later this summer.
Chicken Barbecue Chuck Gooding will be holding a barbecue in Lewes, information will be available at the next meeting.
Car Wash Krista Scudlark will chair a car wash at the Beacon Motel on Savannah Road, June 16th, from 9:30 3pm. Anyone interested in helping can contact Krista at 684-0435 or just stop by on Saturday morning.  The phone tree will be activated for this General Fund event.
State Fair Parking PJ Hopkins advised that all is moving forward nicely for the July 19th thru July 28th Delaware State Fair.  Many have signed up, but many more are needed as volunteers to help park cars.  The funds from this fundraiser will go directly into students accounts.  Family and friends who help will have their hours also deposited into those students accounts.  For questions or to volunteer, please contact PJ Hopkins at 684-4455, or Lisa Bales at 644-9598.

Nominating Committee The nominating committee presented 2 candidates for each board members slot.  The following members were elected to the board for the 2007/2008 term.  President Robert Wingo, Vice President Darrell Dukes, Secretary Yvonne Lallier, Treasurer Christie Pierson, Student Accounts Heidi Dukes.

New Business
Scholarships Krista Scudlark pointed out that in the past; students receiving the two scholarships from the band for $250.00 each have had to submit either book receipts or other college receipts before receiving these funds.  It was also pointed out that other scholarship funds are just submitted at the time of the actual award ceremony and that this should be the practice for the band as well.  A vote was taken that in the future the two students who receive these awards would receive their checks for the scholarship amount at that time the award was presented.

The meeting was adjouned at 8:30pm.  The next meeting will be at the Ninth Grade Campus Front Lawn at 7pm on July 9th.  Bring your chairs.  Minutes respectfully submitted by Joan Williamson.
