The Stallion:
Highwayman CH is a rare and beautiful horse with the honor of being the first Arabian crossed brindle in HF. His sire, a brindle Quarter Horse new to HF in 2007, was an instant hit in the breeding shed and show ring. We hope that Highwayman will eventually prove to be as popular and as great a sire. Already he displays a very playful and rebellous disposition, but not in a menacing way. He is actually quite a fun horse to be around, not to mention very interesting to look at. Plus being a sabino, the added white makes him all the more attractive. He displays more of his Quarter Horse heritage than his Arabian, but he has a lovely head and a very balanced physique. Highwayman was named after the band consisting of four famous names; Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson. Which is perfect, as he is just as unique and headstrong as they were.

We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have scored on the first try with Mac and Legacy for a brindle. The chance is one in a million, and we happened to use that chance on the first try. Originally suspected to ride on the dun gene, brindling has since been proven otherwise as it can appear in bays, greys, chestnuts, and even paints. It is found in a variety of breeds, and the genome hasn't yet been isolated like it has in dogs. It is known, however, that a chimera (horse that inherits too many genes, like XXY instead of XX or XY) will display brindling as like a superimposing on one inherited color on top of the other. All chimeras display brindling, but not all brindles are chimeras. So hopefully we can eventually understand why this strange and beautiful coloring occurs in horses.

The Lineage:
Highwayman CH is a quadruple package; the first and most obvious positive trait is his brindling. The second is he displays sabino in a very attractive way, and Legacy WMA is known to throw sabinos who throw sabinos. If you breed to him, you will most likely get white. Third, he is bred very well. So if you don't get a brindle or even a sabino, at least you still have a foal with excellent lines on both the Quarter Horse and Arabian sides. His dam, Legacy WMA, is a four-time reserve national champion who is an excellent sport horse and proves to be a top contender consistently. She also has numerous Championships and Reserves, and comes from some of the best WA and WMA horses. Fourth, he has excellent conformation and athletic ability coupled with beauty. We hope that Highwayman CH will eventually sire attractive, well-bred 75% Arabians for us, and if we are really lucky, we might even get a brindle from him.
