Hunger is not
appetite; it is a profound debilitating, devasting,
intensively painful human experience. If it goes on long
enough it kills us. All of us have experienced short
term hunger or hunger pangs. Did
you ever realise that this
situation is being faced by many many poor kids from the time
of their birth? Are those kids
responsible for what they face today? The absolutely poor do
not have enough to eat, often
substituting on one meal per day instead of two or three.
Hunger is a faithful companion
for the very poor. The very poor
have no access to education, to basic health care, to drinking water supplies, to sanitation
services etc.
Millions of
children give up on life at a very
early age. Their dreams and hopes get crushed right from the begining. Children fill
us with lot of happiness with their playful deeds and sweet words. But we are touched with
their single cry. Why dont we think of those poor kids too who do not have a living?
Here in the U.S, we provide healthy food for our kids and still always think about the
best food we can provide to them. How much our kids enjoy the mother's love? But think
of some kids who are all alone in this world
and have no one to take care
of.
Here we
enjoy the coziness in winter with warm clothes. But what about
those kids scrambling to
prepare for the harsh winter and who do not have blankets to
keep themselves warm. Those kids go
to bed shivering and crying on those dirty
pavements.
For a minute, let us
imagine by putting ourselves in their shoes. Isnt it painful?
Now that we realized, let us do something for those hungry
kids. It may take years and huge amount at the end of day. Let
us not step back for this reason. "Just like drops of water
that go on to make a river, TOGETHER we can make a difference
in the lives of those starving kids". Let us start today!.
Even a dollar can bring a smile on the face of a starving kid.
Human issue
- Today ending hunger is not primarily a
technical or production issue, it is a human issue. Hunger persists because we
as human beings have failed to organise our societies in ways that assure every
person the chance to live a healthy and productive
life. |
