FIFA World Cup 2006

This year, almost everything in Germany will revolve around 1 thing:Football rules the world and everyone will have their eyes fixed on Germany-country hosting the World Cup. In its capacity as the official carrier for the German national team, Lufthansa is also eagerly awaiting this great event.

Loosely adapted from the old football saying "The ball is round and belongs in the net"-the flight network, in this case-Lufthansa airplanes are being fitted with this round play toy. The nose of the aircraft is painted in the traditional black and white football pattern. This is designed to signal"Welcome to Germany" to fans all over the world and emphasise Lufthansa's multifaceted commitment to football in Germany.

However, before the first coat of paint could be applied, numerous tests had to be carried out at Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg, Germany. This is due to the aircraft's weather radar scanner unit, among other things, which is located in the nose. The engineers had to make sure that the extra coat of paint would not cause any interference. Therefore normal aviaton lacquer was used, but applied much thinner than usual. The design was added using special templates, that had to be adjusted by hand to fit the different sized aircraft noses. The 1st Airbus in Lufthansa's service to be equipped with the new nose was an A340-300, which flies across the entire Lufthansa long-haul network. A further 40 airplanes from all Lufthansa fleets have since been fitted with the football nose and are in operation worldwide. For the model world, we have Lufthansa Airbus A330-300 "Soccer".

Other from that, Australia airlines Qantas also painted their aircraft with special livery to show their support to their national team. 5 Star release Qantas Airways Boeing 767-300ER for model collectors too.. Let's play football!!!
