The Kits > Wolverine
I'm a huge fan of Wolverine [as you can see from my site header] so I just had to pick up this kit. While I think that the current incarnation of Wolvie [from the X-men movies] is wonderful, I still have a soft spot in my heart for the yellow and blue version. Not only to we have an incredibly dynamic pose, but a nice little rock base to boot.

The Buildup
This is a pretty straight forward build, with a handful of body parts, two parts for the door, and a base. The door halves went together without any putty, and was cemented into the base. Leg halves went together, as did head, arms and body. Once he was all put together, I had to do some major putty work on the legs and arms.
The Painting
Thanks to this kit, I got my first experience with stripping. I had this all painted up [base and figure] and just wasn't happy with the way it looked. I gave him a bath in Castrol Super Clean and started with a clean slate. Once again I coated with the Vallejo black and started in on the dark blue for the gloves and boots. Once that was done, I started in on the yellow. I used VERY thin layers to build up the color, leaving some of the black underneath so the musculature showed through.
The flesh tones were done with a base coat of light tan, and then drybrushing a gradually lighter tan. A drop or two of white added to the tan, then another drop or two.
Red, black and white for the mouth and a couple thin coats of silver on the claws and the figure is done.
The base was coated first with a coat of gray, then drybrushed tan, black, silver and white. I was going for a snow covered look but don't think I quite got there. Even still, I'm very happy with the way that this base turned out.
Review
This kit was a really fun build. While I did feel the need to strip the figure and start again, I'm very please with the final kit. I didn't feel the need to add in the black stripes on the door but I still feel that I've done the kit justice.
