The Kits > Super Star Destroyer
As you can probably tell from my name, I'm a huge Star Wars fan. Now these Star Wars models are pretty tough to come by these days. Sure you can probably get your hands on a bunch of Episode I stuff, but a lot of the original trilogy vehicles and stuff are kinda difficult to find. [at least for me] So, when I ran across this one on Ebay, I had to jump at it. That first scene in Star Wars still sends shivers down my spine when we see the Rebel cruiser being followed by the HUGE Super Star Destroyer. What an opening scene!

The Buildup
This on was really fun for me. While I did a ton of vehicles while I was growing up, this was the first one that I had done after getting back into the hobby. There are so many differences between figure building and vehicle building it's not even funny. The most important of all is the extensive use of right angles and straight lines. You just don't see too many in figure kits, but they're all over the vehicle kits.
Getting everything to line up right was quite trying. I did have to use some putty here and there where the hull came together. I also had to pretty much resculpt the nose of this bad boy, as when the top and bottom came together there was either a huge gap, or a huge overhang. Either way, not too good.
The Painting
As you can see from the materials used and the pics below, I didn't do a whole lot with painting this kit. I hit is with a couple of coats of gray primer and considered it done. I've come across some reference material, but to be honest with you, I don't see the point in drybrushing or highlighting a kit when there just isn't a reason for it. Don't get me wrong... I've see a few of these kits built up and painted but to me, the Imperial gray was just perfect the way it was and I left it at that.
I had thought of trying a silver color scheme, but I then went back and was watching Empire again, and to me these guys just look like they're a very flat gray.
Review
I completely enjoyed building this kit. I do have the Falcon sitting on the shelf waiting to be built, but I think that one vehicle at a time is about right for me. I'll go build a couple of figures, and when I'm ready for a bit of a change, I'll move on to the Falcon.
I would like to emphasize once again how different vehicles are from figures. If you've always built one or the other, I highly suggest picking up one of other genre. You'll enjoy it!
