ENGINE NUMBER
All Chevrolet engines are stamped with a plant code, production date, and engine type and production sequence number (last 6 digits) of the Vehicle Identification Number.
Note: 8-cylinder engine codes are stamped on the right front of the engine block; 6-cylinder engine codes are stamped on the right side of the block at the rear of the distributor.
The Vehicle Identification Number is stamped on the engine in the same location as the engine code and consists of the division identification number, model year, assembly plant and vehicle build sequence number (last 6 digits).
