| RESULTS (P34, W20, D3, L10, A1): 23/9/07: Chevening (219-7d) drew with Ide Hill (159-7) In the traditional end-of-season fixture, it was an excellent game once again against Ide Hill, finishing in a winning draw for Chevening. Chevening paced their innings superbly, with David Franklin scoring 59 from the top of the order and George Fisk scoring 50 in very quick time from number 4. Aleks Wrobel successfully executed a reverse sweep for 4 during his 25, and Jonny Recaldin (22) and Rob Hadlow (15) also made double figures. In reply, Chevening bowled and fielded superbly: Jonny Recaldin (2-10) will be on a hat-trick next season, and Rob Hadlow, Derek Fisk, David Usher and Paul Blake all took wickets. David Franklin took two catches and a run-out, and Rob Hadlow took a superb diving catch at pace at third slip. 22/9/07: Chevening (173-2) beat Rusthall (170) by 8 wickets After an early wicket, Chevening batted superbly to overcome Rusthall's 170 with ease on Saturday. Mark Burkitt, tantalisingly, made 99*, having needed five for his hundred when Chevening needed three to win. He shared partnerships of 68 with Harry Evans (25) and 105* with Mark Challis (32*). Earlier, Simon Smithers took 3-27 and Chris Hadlow took 2-24 to restrict Rusthall to 170. 16/9/07: Chevening (106) lost to St John's (110-1) by 9 wickets Chevening's batting was eventually undone by the St John's bowling attack, who bowled us out for 106 in 32 overs, using only three bowlers. Their opener ended up with figures of 16-4-47-6. George Fisk top-scored with a counter-attacking 39, and Aleks Wrobel (17) and David Franklin (11) also made double figures. Simmons made 60 for St John's before retiring. 15/9/07: Chevening (217-6) beat Knockholt (164) by 53 runs Third time lucky - after two defeats in the league, Chevening finally managed to beat Knockholt after a superb batting performance propelled them to 217-6 from their 40 overs. David Franklin anchored the innings with 55, and Harry Evans scored a quickfire 53* from 30 balls to increase the run rate. He and 'keeper Andy Lane (27*) put on an unbeaten 78 for the seventh wicket - an all-time Chevening record. In reply, Knockholt were looking dangerous for a while, but excellent bowling from Simon Baldwin (4-26) and Chris Hadlow (2-26) ensured they were bowled out for 164, falling 53 runs short. 09/9/07: Chevening (137) beat West Peckham (131-9) by 6 runs In a low-scoring and close-fought match against West Peckham, Chevening emerged victorious on Sunday after some excellent bowling at the death. West Peckham needed twelve off the last over, bowled by George Fisk; the first ball was caught on the boundary but a no-ball had been called - 10 off 6 now - same thing, same fielder happened second ball, but this time George had got his feet in the right place. Five more good balls meant West Peckham fell 6 short. In Chevening's innings, David Burrowes top-scored with 32, and Pete Rushbrooke (16), David Franklin (14), Paul Kent, Sat Gautam and Aleks Wrobel (all 13... unlucky for some) made double figures. 08/9/07: Chevening (197-6) beat Gravesend (88) by 111 runs Chevening produced a strong performance to beat a Gravesend side comprehensively on Saturday. Chevening's innings was built upon excellent half-centuries from Mark Challis (77*) and Simon Smithers (55), propelling them to almost 200. In reply Gravesend could only manage 88 all out, with Simon Baldwin (4-21) and Paul Blake (3-8) doing the bulk of the damage. 02/9/07: Chevening (101) lost to Town Malling (192-5) by 91 runs After restricting a strong Town Malling side to 192-5 on Sunday, with Paul Kent taking 2-30 and Aleks Wrobel taking 2-29 on debut, Chevening did well in the end to pass the hundred mark. Town Malling's opening bowlers reduced Chevening to 1-3 and four batsmen made ducks. Jonny Recaldin (38) and John Smith (20) steadied the Chevening innings but eventually they fell 91 runs short. 01/9/07: Chevening beat Southern Railway - match report to come 24/8/07: Chevening (144-6) beat Aqualisa (117) by 27 runs In a 30-over game played on Friday, Chevening beat Aqualisa thanks to unbeaten thirties from Mark Burkitt (38*) and Simon Baldwin (34*). Jonny Recaldin (20) and Chris Barrett (16) also chipped in. In reply, Aqualisa were restricted to 117 thanks to three wickets apiece for Baldwin (3-16) and Recaldin (3-13), despite 36 from Rob McAllister. Harry Evans took a wicket. Either that or there's a mistake on the scorecard. 18/8/07: Chevening (95-2) v Weald (237-6) abandoned due to rain Bad weather was eventually the winner in Chevening's last ever Bat & Ball League game, played at home to Weald. Weald had earlier racked up 237-6 despite 3-33 from Simon Baldwin, but Chevening had made a confident start in reply, despite losing Mark Burkitt for 48. Simon Baldwin was 29* when the rain intervened. 12/08/07: Chevening (95-8) lost to Bells Yew Green (182-7) by 87 runs Not much to write home about here, but creditable performances from Chevening came from George Fisk, who took 3-16 in his two overs, and Dick Clark, who took 2-47. Not bad at all. 11/08/07: Chevening (163-8) beat Godstone (162) by two wickets A nail-biting finish on a hot day in August saw Simon Marton (51*) guide Chevening to victory over Godstone in the league - with his first fifty for the club - with two overs and two wickets to spare. Earlier, Chevening were somewhat disappointed to let Godstone rack up 162, despite good bowling performances from Mark Burkitt (3-34) and Chris Hadlow (4-20). Simon Baldwin took a wicket, two catches and a run-out. In Chevening's innings, support came mainly from Mark Burkitt (43), and Rob McAllister (12) and Mark Challis (11) both made double figures. 05/08/07: Chevening (144-8) drew with Halstead (215-4) - CACC's 1000th game! Paul Kent won the toss on a scorchingly hot day on Sunday but appeared to be so confused by this strange occurance that he offered to toss again; the second toss was promptly lost and Chevening were asked to field in the heat! After a strong batting performance from Halstead, for whom Robertson scored 73* and Cotton 68*, Chevening set about chasing a daunting target of 216. David Franklin (58) and George Fisk (25) put together a good second-wicket partnership, and upped the tempo with 20 overs left in an attempt to snatch a win, but when Franklin was out with ten overs to go, Chevening shut up shop and played out the remaining overs for a draw. Paul Kent took 3-18 in Halstead's innings and David Burrowes took the other wicket. 04/08/07: Chevening (186-3) beat Sennocke (144-9) by 42 runs (+BP) Sennocke came close to snatching the bonus point but fell just short in the final over. Mark Burkitt (48) & David Franklin (38) gave Chevening a solid start and strong hitting by Simon Smithers (45*) including a six OVER the pavilion, saw Chevening post a daunting total. Sennocke lost wickets regularly but Weekes, with a half century, threatened to steal the bonus. Excellent bowling from Chris Hadlow (5-12) removed the middle order and Simon Baldwin and Andy Black kept it tight enough at the death. 29/7/07: Chevening (173-7) beat Brasted Invicta (171-7) by 2 runs In an exciting finish, Chevening's bowlers kept their nerve to ensure Brasted fell two short of Chevening's competitive score of 173-7. This had been set up by a second-wicket partnership of 64 between David Franklin (47) and George Fisk (43), along with 20 from John Recaldin and an excellent partnership at the end between Peter Rushbrook (19*) and John Smith (17*). Good bowling by George Fisk (2-30), John Burrowes (1-35), David Burrowes (1-19), Rob Hadlow (1-27) and John Recaldin (0-15) restricted Brasted early on but they looked odds-on to win after a good 5th-wicket partnership. However, John Burrowes and George Fisk bowled superbly in the last few overs to win the match for Chevening. 28/7/07: Chevening (132-8) lost to Cudham Wyse (134-6) by 4 wickets (+BP) Despite a spirited bowling performance, Chevening's batting was again not quite good enough to beat a good Cudham Wyse side on Saturday. Contributors in Chevening's innings included Simon Baldwin (34), David Franklin (22) and Paul Blake (12*), whose six off the final ball of the innings propelled Chevening to 132-8. Excellent bowling by Rob McAllister (2-28), Simon Baldwin (2-19) and Paul Blake (1-23) reduced Cudham to 48-4 and made Chevening favourites, but Cudham put on a good fifth-wicket partnership to take the game away from the home side. 22/7/07: Chevening vs North Downs cancelled due to rain. 21/7/07: Chevening (68-2) beat Sennocke (63) by 8 wickets (+BP) In a rain-affected match, Chevening secured a comfortable win against Sennocke on Saturday. The bowlers did the damage, with Paul Blake (3-9), Simon Baldwin (3-26), Mark Burkitt (1-9) and Rob McAllister (1-16) taking the wickets, and David Franklin taking three catches. Chevening knocked off the runs with plenty of time to spare, with Mark Burkitt making 39 and Andy Black making 16*. 15/7/07: Chevening (147-5) beat Ash (143-9) by 5 wickets A solid game in all departments meant Chevening were able to beat Ash comfortably on Sunday. Jason Draper (3-12) and Paul Blake (2-23) took most of the wickets, and there was a wicket apiece for Paul Kent, Chris Hadlow and Dick Clark. In reply, David Franklin scored 25 at the top of the order. Chris Hadlow, promoted up the order to number 3, then scored a classy 37, before Jason Draper sealed the game with a typically powerful 40. 14/7/07: Chevening (82) lost to Knockholt (101) by 19 runs (+BP) Chevening's bowlers did brilliantly on Saturday to bowl out Knockholt for 101, taking the last eight wickets for 20 runs - mainly thanks to an excellent spell of wicket-to-wicket bowling from Simon Baldwin, who took 5-14. Chris Hadlow (2-20), Paul Blake (2-26) and Mark Burkitt (1-12) were the other wicket-takers. However, Chevening put in an appalling batting display to get bowled out for just 82 in pursuit, with Mark Burkitt's 20 being the top score, and Andy Black (16) and John Recaldin (13) also contributing. 08/7/07: Chevening (84) lost to St Mary's (85-2) by 8 wickets The highlight of a bizarre innings of 84 from Chevening was an attacking 61 from David Franklin, who scored 78% of the batsmen's runs; no other batsman passed 5. After Chevening were reduced to 29-8, David and Mike Franklin put on 48 for the ninth wicket, with Mike Franklin providing some obdurate resistance at the other end. However, 84 was always going to be a tough score to defend and St Mary's won the game comfortably with just 2 wickets down. 07/7/07: Chevening (70-1) beat Weald (69) by 9 wickets (+BP) Chevening batted and bowled excellently to beat an under-strength Weald side convincingly by 9 wickets. Paul Blake took 4-10, and along with fellow opening bowler Rob McAllister (1-13), he reduced Weald to 12-5 from 12 overs. A mini-recovery followed, but Simon Baldwin (3-27) and Chris Hadlow (2-17) also bowled well to finish Weald off for just 69. In reply, Mark Burkitt scored 15 and David Franklin scored 42* to ensure the win. 01/7/07: Chevening vs Southern Railway & Kenley cancelled due to rain. 30/6/07: Chevening vs Belhus 3rds cancelled due to rain. 24/6/07: Chevening v Godstone cancelled due to rain. 24/6/07: Chevening v Ash cancelled due to rain. 17/6/07: Chevening (112-7) drew with Wrotham (141-9) Chevening held out for the draw against Wrotham on Sunday thanks to good all-round performances from John Burrowes (33* and 2-32) Jason Draper (20 and 3-17). George Fisk (16) and Rob Hadlow (14) also batted well to make sure Chevening were not in trouble, and Paul Kent was another to take a wicket in Wrotham's innings. 16/6/07: Chevening (159-4) beat Cudham Wyse (120) by 39 runs (+BP) An excellent all-round performance from Chevening ensured a win and a bonus point on Saturday. Chevening posted a competitive score of 159-4, largely thanks to a good innings of 56* by skipper Mark Challis. Alex Farr and Mark Burkitt chipped in with 29 each, and Simon Baldwin (24) and Andy Black (13) also contributed. Chevening's bowlers then set about the task of bowling Cudham Wyse out, which they did, spreading out the wickets between them. Mark Burkitt took 3-29, Rob McAllister took 1-23, and there were two wickets each for Simon Baldwin (2-21), Paul Blake (2-26) and Chris Hadlow (2-19). 10/6/07: Chevening (107-9) beat North Downs (106) by 1 wicket Chevening pulled off a remarkable win against North Downs in a tense finish on Sunday. Excellent bowling restricted North Downs to a low score of 106, with David Usher taking 4-17 in a spell which included two consecutive wicket-maidens. Dick Clark (3-19) and Paul Kent (3-10) also bowled very well to take three wickets each. In reply, though, Hammond took 5-56 for North Downs to give Chevening a scare, but Chevening pulled through largely thanks to 43 from George Fisk, who scored nine fours. Chris Barrett (13) and David Usher (11) also contributed. 09/6/07: Chevening (160-8) lost to Knockholt (161-2) by 8 wickets (+BP) Despite a good effort by Chevening's batsmen to reach a competitive score of 160, their target was blown away by Knockholt, for whom Stuart Thresher scored 85*. Chevening's innings was built around 58 from skipper Mark Challis, as well as 34 from an in-form Simon Martin, 29 from Andy Black and 15 from Simon Smithers. Mark Burkitt and Andy Black took the two Knockholt wickets to fall. 03/6/07: Chevening (129-4) beat St Mary's (127) by 6 wickets George Fisk became the youngest player in a decade to score a half-century for Chevening; at the age of just 15, he scored a fantastic 74* to almost single-handedly overcome St Mary's score of 127. John Burrowes chipped in with 16 and Chris Barrett scored 11. Earlier, there had been two wickets apiece for Paul Kent (2-10), Dick Clark (2-19), Chris Hadlow (2-6) and David Burrowes (2-26). 02/6/07: Chevening (212-3) beat Belhus 4th XI (16) by 196 runs Wow. Chevening's opponents, Belhus, set a new record for the lowest score against a Chevening team as they were skittled out for just 16 in what could be described at best as a one-sided encounter. Mark Challis top-scored for Chevening with an excellent 86* and Andy Black scored a good 56. Other contributors were Simon Martin (27*) and Simon Baldwin (14). In Belhus' brief innings, Rob McAllister took a hat-trick and ended with figures of 3-2; Paul Blake took 3-7, John Smith took 2-4 and John Martin 1-2. Seven of the Belhus batsmen failed to trouble the scorers. 27/5/07: Chevening vs Halstead cancelled due to rain. 26/5/07: Chevening (190-4) beat Gills Green (115) by 75 runs A good batting display from Chevening saw them score 190-4 on Saturday, with Mark Burkitt scoring an impressive 81. Other contributors included Simon Smithers (27*), Andy Black (22), Alex Farr (18) and Simon Martin (11). In reply, Gills Green could only manage 115, as Chris Hadlow (3-30) and Mark Burkitt (3-21) bowled well to take three wickets each. Paul Blake, John Smith and Mark Challis also took wickets, and at one stage in the innings, Gills Green lost four wickets for no runs. 20/5/07: Chevening (54) lost to Brasted Invicta (56-4) by 6 wickets A severely depleted Chevening side could only field nine men away at Brasted, and after winning the toss (!) and batting first, there was no way back from 10-5, despite the best efforts with the bat of skipper Paul Kent (20*) and Paul Blake (14). Dick Clark (2-11) bowled well, and also took a hat-trick in the beer match which followed. Chris Hadlow and Paul Blake took the other wickets. 19/5/07: Chevening (117) lost to Woldingham (152-9) by 35 runs Chevening bowled well to restrict Woldingham to 152-9 on Saturday but unfortunately their batting collapsed to 117 all out in reply. John Smith did most of the damage with the ball, taking 4-31 in a masterful spell of bowling, and Andy Black took 2-23. Mark Burkitt, Simon Martin and David Usher took the other wickets to fall. Simon Martin (44) was the mainstay of Chevening's batting, and Alan Jackson scored an aggressive 18*, but David Franklin (17) and David Usher (16) were the only others to reach double figures and Chevening ended up 35 runs short. 13/5/07: Chevening vs Quaggies cancelled due to rain. 12/5/07: Chevening (176-3) beat Jolly Rogers (171-6) by 7 wickets An excellent opening stand of 158 between Mark Burkitt (84) and Alex Farr (78*) made light work of the target of 172 set by Jolly Rogers on Saturday. Burkitt hit 14 fours and 2 sixes and Farr hit 15 fours: again, lots of boundaries for the Saturday side. Earlier, Burkitt (2-21), Simon Baldwin (2-30) and Rob McAllister (1-37) had taken wickets. Garbett scored 78* for Jolly Rogers. 06/5/07: Chevening (125-8) beat Wadhurst II (124) by 2 wickets An excellent bowling performance by Chevening restricted Wadhurst II to just 124 on Sunday. John Smith destroyed their middle order with 3-24; Paul Blake took 2-11 from 6 overs and George Fisk bowled two overs, taking 2-2. Mike Franklin and John Burrowes also took wickets. In reply, Chevening did well to recover from losing the top three batsmen for ducks and then being 53-7 and 74-8; skipper Paul Kent guided them home with 39*, with support from John Smith (22*), Pete Rushbrook (16) and Paul Blake (13). 05/5/07: Chevening (208-8) beat Farnborough (114) by 94 runs A superb 116 from Simon Baldwin set Chevening up for a convincing win at home to Farnborough in the first Saturday game of the season. John Burrowes took 2-37 in Broadway's innings, and the main contributors with the bat for Chevening were Paul Kent (39), Jason Draper (38), and Rob Hadlow, whose 22 included two sixes. |
