| Sometimes I get e-mails from people who want information about Chevado for the purpose of building scale Models . Then when they are done they send me photos of the completed project. So I decided that it would be a good idea to include them in our Website. So what I'm going to do is post a copy of the e-mail and then the photos that came with it. Enjoy! |
| The first completed model came from Rob Riley. Altough not Chevado he says it was Chevado that inspired it. Brandon Flannery over at Boss Ride did a Nice article on this model. Check it out! Boss Ride Magazine |
| Gary, I don't know how often people send you pics. Like this but I think you'll like these. I am an avid model car builder, and I don't build anything stock or "straight from the box". This kit started life as a stock 55 Chevy Nomad, but I turned it into a wheel stander. I built this for a model car contest coming up in March of 2004. I used parts from a few different kits, and had to cut & grind a lot of plastic. I visited your website numerous times for inspiration, and to view the Chevado. I read the whole story about 10-15 times for further inspiration. I didn't want to copy Chevado, but I wanted to build something that has the same idea. This is my "GO-MAD" Wheelstander. I used a fuel injected small block Chevy mounted backwards in the rear of the car. The trans. is a turbo 400, and it has a reverse mounted quick-change rearend hooked directly to the trans. I did extensive work to the frame to get the motor to fit right, and I had to cut up the interior. (The interior even has 2 independent rear wheel brake levers for wheelie steering). It took me about 2 weeks to build start to finish. The engine, and headers come from an old mid-engine VW Hot-Rod van from the 70's. I got the idea to build this car from the engine. Trans, and reverse mounted quick-change rear end...but Chevado was always on my mind while I was building this. I am in the process of making up some decals that say " GO-MAD" for the doors. The tailgate doubles as wheelie bars, so it would spray sparks as it goes down the track. Being a model builder, you have to use your imagination a bit. I just wanted to show you this model, and say thanks for daring to cut up a 55 nomad and make the Chevado. You have been a major inspiration in the building of this model. Thanks very much. | The next one came from Sam Dunford. Sam and I went back and forth for a week or so about details and this is the Chevado replica he came up with. This is the first model I've ever seen of my favorite Nomad. Nice job Sam. |
| Hi Bill, This is either going to be too much or to little?Started with an AMT 1/25th scale 3 n 1 55 Nomad. Used the Monogram 1/24th scale Hairy Hurst Olds as a donor car for the Toronado engine, headers etc....Cut the floorboard out from between the frame rails on the Nomad, placed styrene cross members for support. The engine sub frame for the Olds motor was already a single piece in the Hurst kit (saved time). Started putting the engine together while also scratch building the injection intake. The chrome stakes are actually placed on top of styrene tube, which is part of the scratch built intake. The injection intake is fully plumbed with fuel lines and linkage (hard to see know that it's all inside the body. The radiator is actually 1 1/2 radiators put together. The engine bay has everything that the real Chevado has with the exception of the cooler can, just didn't have enough room using a 1/24th engine in a 1/25 body. For the Drivers view, the Console has 1 shifter and 2 brake levers. Tach and oil gauge on the dash and Gary wood 3 spoke wheel on the column.Paint is (Honda) Alpine Green Metallic with a gold base coat and 4 coats of clear over the decals. Lettering decals were made using Paint Shop Pro 8 and printed on an Ink-Jet printer, only the Meguiars decal was used from an actual image.Everyday stuff like black washed grill and body emblems were done by hand. That's about it. Hope I did it justice.........Enjoy, and again, thanks for all your help. Sam Dunford o-iii<0 Dayton, Ohio http://www.samdunford.com http://groups.msn.com/SamsModels/shoebox.msnw |
