| I'm Chet Rollins, or rather, that's my alias. I've been a SASS member since "98 and a Life member since "03. A co-worker approached me one day and asked if I was interested in Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS) since he knew I hunted with Ruger sidearms and was always reading Westerns fact and fiction. He invited me out to a weekend shoot and I was hooked. I had thought about joining Mountain Man clubs before, however it never felt like a good fit, not at all like CAS, which felt like a worn saddle. I grew up not unlike the kid in the movie "A Christmas Story" shooting bad guy's off the roof's of house's with my "Pop-gun" rifle and a pair of gloves tucked in my belt like Chuck Connors in my favorite tv western "The Rifleman". I spent my summers on my uncle Gunn's small ranch, riding horses, bailing hay, herding his small bunch of beeves and occassionally a few sheep. Lovin every minute of it. I draw my alias Chet Rollins from a great western book "Monte Walsh" written by Jack Schaefer, who also wrote "Shane". Monte is a bronc buster and Chet was his companion, an expert with a lariat.Unfortuanately, I couldn't catch a breeze with a coiled rope. There have been two movies made from the book, of the same title "Monte Walsh". Lee Marvin (Monte) and Jack Palance (Chet) in 1970 and the 2002 version with Tom Selleck (Monte) and Keith Carradine (Chet). Unlike the movie versions where Chet is killed, in the book Chet outlives the main character, such is Hollywood. |
