Volcano Worshipper's Hour #180 2/8/05 12-6AM
on WRSU 88.7 FM New Brunswick, NJ or www.wrsu.org
This was a weird show. I started out feeling really happy, and I played the baile funk mix I got at the M.I.A. show cause it was great, and I couldn't wait to play it on the air, and then some asshole calls me up and says "I apologize for cursing over the phone" and then just rattles off every curse you can think of and then apologizes again and hangs up. I wanted to try and talk to him, but why would someone who has nothing better to do than call lonely college radio DJs up in the middle of the night and curse at them bother to listen to me? So that was lame enough. Then I went to go to the bathroom and go out to get a soda from the soda machine, which I usually do during my overnight shows, for fairly obvious reasons. And then a few minutes later I hear a knock on the back door of the station, and I'm like, oh great, not only are crazy people calling me, but there's someone else in the student center. This can't be good. I turn the music down, and a bunch of cops are there. They don't believe that I'm supposed to be there. They take my name down and ask for identification or proof that I'm supposed to be there. And they started getting testy with me! I mean, I'm super non-aggressive. I would never try to start trouble. I know the situation with the sensors in the student center and how people are setting off the alarm. Obviously, I'm not trying to start trouble or set off alarms and stuff. These cops don't understand that. They seemed to insist that if I was going to get near the sensors, to let them know about it so it would be ok. But why would I get near the sensors? I know about all this stupid crap with people setting them off. Obviously, I have no business going into the closed off area of the building. But these cops still insisted that I was doing something wrong, and wouldn't let me go back to doing my radio show for a few minutes. They even said some really stupid crap about "you're lucky we haven't pulled out weapons at you for trying to avoid a warrant search". So apaprently, having to go to the bathroom after midnight is cause for a warrant search. Fuck Rutgers.
