THE PLAN OF OUR
FATHER IN HEAVEN

God has a plan for us. Like most people, we believe in God. We know that he lives and would like to share with any viewer our feelings about him.

God is perfect, wise, and all powerful. He is also merciful, good and just. We know we can have faith in him. We can love him with all of our hearts.

We are children of our father in heaven and are created in his likeness. Since He is the father of us all, we would all be brothers and sisters.

Our loving father wants us to progress and be happy. Furthermore, He wants us to become more like Him. Hence, He prepared a plan that will bring us joy in this life and will give us the chance to live with him forever. This plan is called the plan of salvation.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God

Without the help of our father in heaven, we can receive blessings from the plan of salvation. In this life,
all of us sin and therefore, none of us is perfect. Our sins make us unworthy to return to our Father in
Heaven. Furthermore, at the end of this life, we all die.

God sent Jesus Christ to help us overcome sin and death, in a way that we could return to his presence.
Jesus Christ and his mission are the most important parts of the plan of salvation. See John 3:16 It is beautiful to think of the love that our Father in Heaven has for us.

Jesus has fulfilled his part in this plan. Through his sacrifice and his resurrection, we can overcome the
effects of sin and live again after this life.

The plan of salvation is simple, but we must decide to follow it. see John 14:6 Through his perfect example and his teachings, Jesus showed us how to follow the plan.

If we have faith to do that which Jesus Christ taught, we can find peace in this life. Furthermore, we can become more like him and our Father in Heaven. We can return to live with them after this life.

How the plan was revealed

Our Father in Heaven wants us all to understand the plan of salvation and Jesus' mission in that plan. He has a simple way of revealing this plan to his children.

God chooses righteous men as his witnesses. They learn directly from him the truth on the plan and the mission of Christ in that plan. These men to whom God reveals such things are called prophets and apostles. see Amos 3:7

God gives to these prophets the authority to act in his name and to teach the plan to others. They testify of Christ in two ways. First, they teach to the people directly. Second, they write their testimonies and the truth of the gospel in sacred books called scriptures.

The people that listen to the prophets or that read their words in the scriptures can know through the Holy Ghost that these teachings are true.

When, through the Holy Ghost, people come to know the truth, the Lord's servants invite them to follow his plan.

The prophet Joseph Smith, a modern witness of Jesus Christ

God has followed his plan in revealing the truth also in our day. He chose a prophet that the plan of salvation directly from him.  This prophet was Joseph Smith.

In the year 1820, Joseph Smith was only fourteen years old. He was confused about the many diverse ideas on religion that were taught. All the churches claimed to know the truth on God. But young Joseph was confused because of the great differences in their teachings. He described his feelings with these words: see JS 2:8

One day Joseph read a passage of the Bible that showed him how he could overcome this confusion. In James 1:5, he read, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not and it shall be given him." Joseph decided to do just as the Bible said. He would ask God in prayer. One spring morning, he went into a nearby grove. He knelt and began to pray to God with all of his heart. Because of his great faith, he believed that God would respond to his prayer.

With his words, he described what happened: "I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me... When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other-- This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!" In answer to his prayer, God the Father and Jesus Christ spoke to Joseph Smith. Through this and other experiences, Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet. He was similar to Moses and other
prophets of the Bible. They too saw God and were called to teach his message.

Since he saw the resurrected savior and spoke with him, Joseph Smith is a powerful witness of Jesus Christ. Through him God revealed the truth of the plan of salvation which includes the divine mission of Jesus Christ.

The Book of Mormon, another testimony of Jesus Christ

As a witness of Christ, Joseph Smith received the authority to teach the gospel. He brought to light other scripture. He was commanded to translate writings of ancient prophets. These writings are found in the Book of Mormon; another testament of Jesus Christ.

The Book of Mormon contains writing of ancient prophets. The first prophet, Lehi, lived in Jerusalem in 600 B.C. The Lord commanded Lehi to lead a small group of people to the American continent. There, they did found a great civilization. God continued to choose prophets among this people. The Book of Mormon is a collection of their writings. It takes its name from one of these prophets.

These prophets knew the plan of salvation and the mission of the Savior. In fact, after the resurrection, Christ appeared to the people in America. He taught them the gospel and instituted his church amoung them.

For centuries, the truth of the plan of salvation was found mainly in the Bible. God has now given us the Book of Mormon, which is another testament of Jesus Christ. see 2 Corinthians 13:1 This book is freely given to any who would contact The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We invite you to make this contact and read this book. Representatives would also be happy to help you read and understand it.

The Holy Ghost is a witness of the truth

Calling the prophet Joseph Smith and commanding him to bring to light the Book of Mormon, God has continued to reveal the truth through a prophet, as he has always done. God has promised that the Holy Ghost will help you understand that the Book of Mormon is true. see John 14:6

The Holy Ghost will help you to know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and a witness of Christ. Once you know these things, you will also know that all the things we have said are true.

The Book of Mormon contains a promise for all those that read it. The Lord has given us this promise through the prophet Moroni see Moroni 10:3-5

These verses tell us that you can know through the Holy Ghost that the Book of Mormon is true. First: you must read it. Second: you must meditate and reflect upon that which you have read, comparing the principles of the Book of Mormon with those of the Bible. Third: you must pray to your Father in Heaven sincerely having faith in Christ. Your Father in Heaven promises that by the power of the Holy Ghost, he will help you to know the truthfulness of this message.
