Purpose of meeting: To deal with issues relating to the formation of the South Cheshire BSAOC.
Present:
The
committee: Trevor Philcock (substituting for Jean), Andrew Guttmann, Les
Warburton.
Also
present, though not on the committee: Darren, Lydia, Dave & Sal, Matthew,
Brian, Pam, Jackie, Skip, Tina, Barry, Dave.
1.
General issues of membership of The Cheshire Beezers
The
Cheshire Beezers is a local, independent motorcycle club for classic motorcycle
enthusiasts. We are keen to see other clubs thrive, particularly those who can
present a positive image of classic motorcycling to the general public. We seek
to work in cooperation, not competition, with other clubs. We extend a warm
welcome to anybody who would like to meet, join, or ride out with us. We are
also keen to take part in events organised by other motorcycle clubs and
organisations. Our members are free to join other motorcycle clubs and
organisations and we recognise that there are already a significant number of
Cheshire Beezers who are members of other one-make clubs and The Vintage
Motorcycle Club.
2. Specific issues relating to the formation of the South Cheshire Branch BSAOC.
We
understand that, for their application to be successful, our members who are
also BSAOC members were required to overcome some objections.
a)
Cheshire Beezers logo. The club was formed, coincidentally, by BSA owners which is why the
club has always had a bias towards BSA’s. However, if we are to encourage
owners of all marques to join our club it is no longer appropriate to use the
letters BSA in the club’s logo. Indeed it could be argued that the letters BSA
should never have been used without permission from the holder of the trademark
licence. The BSAOC did not request that the club’s name be changed. The
original logo was drawn up by Andrew who has already prepared a replacement
(see attached). There is no constitutional restriction over a change of logo.
Proposed: That the new logo (attached) be adopted and that future logo’s will not contain a one-make insignia. Agreed unanimously
b) Relationship between the Cheshire Beezers and South Cheshire Branch, BSAOC
The
Cheshire Beezers wish the newly formed South Cheshire Branch, BSAOC every
success. Cheshire Beezers acknowledge that certain expectations, referred to in
previous committee minutes, regarding the relationship between the respective
clubs cannot be met due to BSAOC rules. We acknowledge that the South Cheshire
Branch, BSAOC will be answerable only to the BSAOC and entirely independent of
the Cheshire Beezers. The founder members of South Cheshire Branch, BSAOC wish
to remain members of The Cheshire Beezers but are likely to attract members of
their own who may not wish to join us. This is, of course, acceptable. We hope
that we will be made welcome at South Cheshire Branch, BSAOC meetings as and
when rules allow.
Proposed: To accept the stated relationship between South Cheshire Branch, BSAOC and Cheshire Beezers. Agreed unanimously
