Here is the page with descriptions of work I have done as a TSA (Technical Support Assistant) for CTS (Campus Technology Services) SUNY Oswego. Basically, a TSA is supervised by the Technical Support Professionals. We generally work as a team, 2 or 3 TSA's under one supervisor for each project. So when I say 'I did this' keep in mind I did not work on it alone.
TSA Job duties:
- imaging
- setting up and removing computers from lab
- removing and installing software on faculty machines
- repairing (both hardware and software) of all campus computer labs and faculty machines
- the ongoing supervison/training of Computer Lab Assistants and recruting/training future TSA's
- TSA's also do office hours at the CTS help desk for students. When the help desk techs have a lot of student machines to fix, the TSA's work on them to give the students a faster responce time.
Projects completed as a TSA:
- Update/redo the Computer Lab Assistant Website. I did the basic update myself, including writing some of the documentation, then a supervisor redesigned it and uploaded it so that it would follow the same format as the other campus webpages. The site also needed to be moved from my account.
- Helping to create and type up a spreadsheet containing all information for every computer plugged into the network on the east side of campus. The spreadsheets includ the name of each machine, room number, mac address, IP address service tag number, model number and purchase date. We started this process from scratch and had to physically go to every computer and then write down the information by hand so that it could later be added to the spread sheet.
- Setting up new e-mac computers and dell gx 110 computers in a combination classroom/computer lab where students will learn how to use both computers over the course of the semester. We started out with an empty room, and arranged the desks and then hooked up the computers.
- Cleaned and organied 'dead storage'- this is where we keep old computers/spare parts.
- Reviewing the Computer Lab Assistant handbook and suggesting updates/additions.
- Testing of Deep Freeze (to replace PCR-dist).
- Compiling a list of software updates to be completed over the winter session.
