10/12/00 - Caitlin finally made it into maintenance on 10/9/00. She received a spinal tap and a bone marrow aspiration. This was obviously a tough visit for her, but at least she made it into maintenance. Her ANC was 2576 and the initial reading of her bone marrow indicated that there were no Leukemia cells present. This was great news for us and we were really excited about hearing something positive for a change. She still has a long way to go, but with a little luck, she'll make it through just fine. On a sad note, Logan Baldwin, a 2 year old boy and son of my bosses friend, was just diagnosed with Acute Mylogenous Leukemia, AML. This is a tough one to have but with plenty of prayers from all of you, I know he can win his battle, Please keep Logan and his family in your prayers. We're a sign that they really do work. I'll update again soon.
9/28/99 - Sorry for the long delay since my last update. Caitlin spent almost another 2 weeks in the hospital from 9/10/00 - 9/20/00 due to fevers and low counts. Her counts never really recovered as well as they would have liked, but sent us home anyway. Caitlin is scheduled to go into maintenance this coming Monday, so keep your fingers crossed that her counts are good enough to get her there. I'll update again next week.

We participated in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk in Washington DC September 21, 2000 and had a really wonderful time. We had a team of 29 friends and family and raised over $13,000.00 to help find a cure for Caitlin's terrible disease. We were the highest fundraising team of the family and friends group and were second highest overall. If you've never heard of this event, check out their web site at
http://www.lightthenight.org. It was a truly amazing night and is something that we look forward to doing every year.
8/29/00 - Caitlin began her final 2 weeks of Delayed Intensification on Monday. She had a blood draw on Friday and had an ANC of 3700+. Her appointment went really well. She had a spinal tap, which was clean, and received a full days worth of Cytoxan. She began 4 days of Ara-C yesterday and will hopefully have counts good enough to keep her from spiking a fever. She will have another spinal tap next Tuesday, followed by another 4 days of Ara-C. After that, she will go into maintenance until January 31,2002. So, circle that date on your calendar and count down with us. That's all for now. I'll update again next week.
8/17/00 - Sorry for the delay in updating the page. Caitlin went home 8/11/00. Unfortunately, she spiked another fever yesterday, 8/16/00, and had to be re-hospitalized. She's not receiving any chemotherapy this week so hopefully her counts will rebound quickly so we can get out of the hosptial in only a couple of days. Even after we get out, we won't be out long. Her next round of chemotherapy, Ara-C, usually causes fevers so we know we'll be back before all is said and done. We have to keep reminding ourselves that this is the last big cycle, so whatever happens, happens. We're still scheduled to go into maintenance in September, but may miss the actual date by a week or so. I'll keep you all posted.
8/7/00 - What a difference 4 days makes. Friday, 8/4/00, Caitlin decided she would spike a fever. We took her to the hospital to have her checked out. Knowing she had great counts on Monday, we were expecting to get some antibiotics and go home. Her ANC came back at 7, down 2501 points in 4 days. The doctor's are still scratching their heads about this one. She hasn't grown anything in blood cultures and has been fever free for almost 2 days. As soon as her counts come back up we'll be able to go home. That's going to be hard to do when she receives more chemotherapy today.
7/31/00 - Caitlin had a checkup today and everything went great. Her ANC is 2508, which is really a great number. Her first week of Delayed Intensification went better than expected. She did well with all of her chemotherapy and didn't have any bad side effects associated with the Decadron. So, 1 week down, 5 weeks to go.
7/24/00 - Caitlin started Delayed Intensification 2 today. It will consist of 6 weeks of heavy Chemotherapy which will wipe out her counts and her. Her ANC today was 1575, which is really good. We know that the next 6 weeks are going to be rough on her as well as her Mom and I, but once we get through this, we'll be in maintenance the rest of the way out. I will provide weekly updates the next few weeks so check back often.
6/26/00 - Caitlin had another appointment yesterday and is doing really well. Her ANC is down a little bit to an 858 but still isn't all that bad. She has another 4 weeks of easy stuff before her final round of heavy medication. Believe it or not, we're actually able to see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel. Check back soon as I will have new updates from time to time.
5/26/00 - Caitlin had an appointment on Friday and everything went really well. Her ANC was 1560 and her platelets were up to 456,000, which is all good news. She began receiving treatment that afternoon and will continue with low dose medication for the next 2 months. Hopefully all will go well from here on out.
