Tango's cage.
HOME.
Tango's cage is not really a practical one. It is dome shaped with a 21 inch diameter. The actual cage is 37 inches high. The stand is 27 inches long making it 64 inches high, altogether. A more practical cage would bea bigger cage with a roof that opens up so he has more freedom. In the future, I will get him a bigger cage.
The cage has 2 wooden perches and a sandy perch, which I bought from Northern parrots mail order. This will help him to keep his  nails trim. When I replace his wooden perches, I will get him some natural ones, which are better for the feet. They sell them in pets at home. I have also provided him with 3 hanging toys which he often loves to attack and swing on. I sometimes think he's going to fall when he jumps and swings on them! I get him a mineral block when I can. He loves to grind his beak on it, even if it goes through everyone!
He has 2 standard size food dishes, one for food and one for water. Everytime I change his food and water - twice daily, he dives at me and tries to bite my hand. He also has a small silver dish for his fruit. All he does with that is throw it out. Although, If Im standing there waiting for it, he won't, he pretends to eat the food inside until I'm gone, then he'll quickly put it out. He'd rather make a mess on the floor. If I pick up the seed shells or fruit off the floor, he'll deliberately put some more on the floor, right in front of my eyes! He throws it out through the holes that were originally used to put his food dishes through. He used to be able to knock them off, so I had to adapt it so the food dishes are inside the cage, tied to the bars by the metal holders. He now sticks his head through the holes and says "Hello" to us!
His cage has also been adapted by raising the metal grid at the bottom of the cage. It has been raised because Tango could reach the removable trays and push them out, making a mess on the floor. If he drops a bit of bread or chees, he will go down and stick his feet through the holes and pick it up. It's quite funny to see!
At christmas time, I put a bit of gold tinsel at the top of the cage and it looks like a star shining down. This facinates Tango!
Tango and me - conclusion.
Tango and I are lifelong friends. I miss him terribly if I go away anywhere. I'm hoping that soon, I can take him with me when I go away somewhere. He's got his harness after all. I'm going to buy a spare cage for Peter's dad's house for when we go up there because I missed him so much last time.
I would definately never be without him, ever. We've been through a lot together. If you read "Lucky Tango" you will see just how much.
