| I remember giving birth as if it were yesterday. Sean is such a lovely baby that the pain was all worth it. Peter and my mum were at the birth. Here is the birth story. I woke up at 7.50am on Wednesday 3rd April with mild contractions. I wasnt sure if it was the real thing or not though. I went to the toilet, and Id also had a 'show'. I thought " yeah, this is it!!" I went back to bed but was too uncomfortable, so I got up. The contractions were coming every 10 minutes or so. I didnt know what to do with myself, so I went with Peter to Asda to get a magazine to read as I'd read that labour can be very long. By 1pm, they were coming every 6 mins, so I rang the midwife who told me to have a bath and take a paracetamol and wait a little longer. So I did. The contractions seemed to stop for a while after that and I was gutted! |
| I waited for half an hour for another contraction, and sure enough, they came back with a vengeance. They became quite painful and by 6pm I decided I should ring the midwife again. My mum told me I should hold off going into hospital for a while, but Its lucky I didn't. Just half an hour after we arrived, at 8.30pm, my waters broke and I needed gas and air badly! I was also examined and hooked up to a baby heart monitor. In the delivery there was a tiny hat and ventilator and suddenly, having a baby seemed very real. I was going to have this tiny person to look after and life would never be the same again. At 9pm, the pain was unbelievable and brought me to tears a few times. I had a pethidine injection, but it didnt work, it only helped me relax between contractions. I didnt fancy an epidural, I really dont like needles. I screamed and screamed, so much that at one point I got told off for scaring the other mums to be!!! I had an awful urge to push about 2 hours too early. At around 12.30am I was allowed to push, which was a huge relief, I can tell you! Getting the head out was a nightmare. I felt like I was going to split right open there and then. At 1.33am on the 4th April 2002, my beautiful baby boy, Sean Peter Gibbons, was born. He was the most gorgeous little baby you ever did see. Ill never forget the first sight of his face I had, it was magical, he looked up into my eyes. Peter cut the cord. I spent 4 days in hospital with him and, unfortuanately, was unable to breast feed. We came home on the 7th April. |
