Pictures from Join Hand Day
Our last service project involved removing paint from the house of a family whose child tested with high lead levels. It was discovered that the high lead levels were due to peeling lead paint. The house was scraped and wiped down, then primed and painted. This project was a joint effort with other AmeriCorps team in Grand Rapids, and was sponsored by our team and the ClearCorps team at Home Repair Services.
Scraping the house:
Members of ClearCorps and our Social Work Director at Cherry Street start scraping all levels of the house..
One of our members, Julia, and the daughter of a Cherry Street nurse continue the scraping on the back of the house
More house scraping! The plastic seen in the picture is a thick plastic used to keep the lead chips that are scraped from the house (after being sprayed to prevent dust) from spreading.
Priming and painting the house:
The house is looking better!
Americorps workers from sites around Grand Rapids are coming together to "get things done"!
Susan and Lekisha from our team work on priming the house.
Meegan, from our Cherry Street team, helps out a ClearCorps member.
At the end of the project, our HealthCorps team and the ClearCorps team from Home Repair Services got together in front of the house. The project was a success!
