February Week 1

Mustique & Dominica

February 01

To Martinique through nice sunny day and anchored in Marin as no place in the marina. Malcolm with stomach cramps and nausea. Macrae and green wellies seasick on crossing.

February 02

All day in Martinique visited doctor . Going bankcrupt. Dom out and drank 20 rums and back with Macrae - I think the proper medical term is blotto. Macrae and Woodhead visited Fort de France during the day.

February 03

Arrived after a boisterous sail in sea of Martinique at St. Peters - had anchoring problems. German yacht thought we were too close (achtung !!). Put out fenders etc., and we moved . No international incident arose. Went to the town centre, famed for Vodoo with Dom and Macrae.

Strange things are supposed to happen here, but the most unusual thing was that a woman in a skeleton suit tried to sell them a doll, I suppose that is a wee bitty strange. Macrae awaiting faxes.

February 04

Awaiting faxes for Macrae. Battery charger failed which makes charging difficult. Taken apart by Macrae to no avail. Argument with Dom on whether should do this or not. Dom upset . Me upset. Two hours cooling off then Macrae and Woodhead ashore with Dom and I filling with diesel. In evening cheap but good meal ashore with Kim and the Vikings who are now going to Trinidad to lay up and possibly sell the boat. Still don't feel right.

Febraury 05

Dom up 0630am for trip to Dominique - actually up and down all night with depth alarms, gas alarms and Dom's restlessness. Forecast for 25-30 K winds. Sailed in gap winds. Macrae wanting to take up chicken farming .Got to North Dominica - Rupert at 5pm and then ashore for nice meal, mmm. All relieved to have survived - even our intrepid Dom who slept well in his country (Dominique - ha ha).

February 06

Up the Indian river through the mangroves by dinghy to small cafe in the jungle. Saw land crabs and everittes etc. In PM wandered 'cross town which was bright and jolly and then had dinner on board. Polished off a bottle of rum.

February 07

Moved to Guadeloupe  arriving in morning at the capital. Ashore till noon. David and I visited capital walking there and back, going to bank en route. Got cheese, bread etc., for lunch and then went to North Guadeloupe. On way Macrae convinced he was gravely ill and wanting plane home.  Nice wee town with Spar supermarket (they're everywhere). David and I ashore for pizza and early to bed as plan is to get up 4am to get to Antigua before strong winds which start tomorrow night.
