We don't have many places to climb here in east texas unless you want to climb trees! And unless you have lots of money to throw around I doubt you'll be climbing solo anytime soon! On that note let me just say this, NEVER EVER climb with out a safety rope that is properly set up by a trained profesional! Your Life is at stake on that rock. Now with that in mind your probally thinking "how do people get into rock climbing if they can't just go out and do it one day?" Well I'm glad you asked! There are many, many classes accross america that give beginners like you and me a chance to climb safely. They will teach you everything you need to know, from knots (like a figure 8 follow through on a bite with a stop, my fav!) to equipment (carribeners, rope, harness, helmet, swiss seat.) to oral commands (CLIMB ON!!!!!) ALl of these elements MUST be mastered for a safe and successufull climb. The best way to enjoy a cheap day on the rocks is to go to an indoor gym and try yor luck there! My personal fav is Stone works in Dallas. It is home to the WORLDS TALLEST artifical rock face! (link on right) So if your even the slightest bit interested in trying it out I suggest you take a day and give it a shot you have NOTHING to lose!
