On
a rock, in the early evening light
Mysteriously
glowing eyes
Watching
me watching her
Beautiful
as she can be
Standing
proud, muscles lean
Fur
all black with silvery streaks
I
wonder what she thinking about me
She
raised her powerful head towards the sky
Lets
out a mournful and sorrowful cry
Her
howl was not met with a returning reply
She
lowered her head toward me
Then
dashed off the boulder and
Dove
into a hole beneath
This
was her home so I thought I would let her be
I
turned to continue my evening stroll
She
came out and laid a puppy at my feet
Solid
black as she but missing those silvery streaks
I
looked at her and she looked at me
She
was bleeding terribly.
Some
idiot shot her with his gun
She
nudged her wolf pup toward me
I
picked up the tiny thing
Eyes
still closed, he started to whimper so
I
held him close to my heart
I
told his mama what a beautiful son she’s got
She
looked at me with sadness in her eyes
“Here
is my pup” she seemed to say to me
“I
give him to you to keep him safe”
“I
will not return, you need to take my place”
I
looked at her with such sadden eyes
How
can I raise a wolf pup in disguise?
I
fell to my knees and stared in disbelief
My
long time friend was going to die
Men
with steel had killed her pack
She
raised her beautiful midnight head toward the sky
She
let out a beautiful and sorrowful cry
I
raised mine to the moon
With
my new wolf pup nestled between my boobs
I
let out a howl that started from my toes
Vibrating
through my body to my nose.
We
soon stopped and she looked at me
Then
she turned to leave,
She
was now ready to die freely.
