The kids really have a blast
when we do our pumpkin unit and so do I! There are many subject areas
and state standards that can be covered by exploring pumpkins. For
example, we:
-
Measured the
circumference with string, the height with unifix cubes and made
comparisons of the data collected
-
Estimated the number of
seeds in each pumpkin
-
Made predictions whether
pumpkins could float; brainstormed why pumpkins float
-
Charted describing words
on a large pumpkin based on personal experience of how the inside of
a pumpkin feels, looks, tastes and smells
-
Wrote and illustrated a
book about pumpkins
-
Learned how plants grow
by planting the pumpkin seeds in baggies
-
Graphed who liked
pumpkin shakes and who did not
