(AT RISE: JAMES and LUCY walk into there son LUIS’ room.)
LUCY
Luis? Can I come in?
LUIS
Mom! No! Wait! Jesus!
JAMES
Luis, are you all right? Open this door!
LUCY
James, I think he’s on drugs.
LUIS
Mom! I’m not on any drugs!
LUCY
Then why don’t you let us in?
JAMES
Yes, son, why won’t you let us in?
LUIS
Because, I was kinda in the middle of something!
JAMES
Were you snorting the coke?
LUIS
No, I wasn’t snorting the coke.
LUCY
I smell that marijuana thing. Oh my god, my son is on marijuana.
(LUIS opens door, while placing his bonsai tree back in it’s place.)
JAMES
I think he hid it in the tree!
LUIS
No, dad I wasn’t doing anything illegal, at least not in this state.
JAMES
Young man you had better not be doing anything that is illegal anywhere!
LUCY
Oh, James I think I’m going to faint
JAMES
Not now, we have to find that Mary Jane…that’s what you kids call it now a days
right, Mary Jane?
LUIS
Dad, I have no idea, I don’t have any drugs.
JAMES
Then what were you doing?
LUIS
nothing.
LUCY
Luis, what is this white stuff in your tree?
LUIS
Ah…nothing.
JAMES
That might be that cocaine…no wait snow, that’s what you call it now a days right, snow?
LUIS
I don’t know! And it’s not that! It’s, um…
JAMES
Let me see that!
LUCY
It almost looks like—
JAMES
Hmm…it’s rather suspicious. Honey do you know what the snow tastes like?
LUCY
No.
LUIS
I swear I don’t have anything here!
JAMES
Let me have a taste of—
LUIS
No, Dad don’t!
JAMES
Tastes kind of salty.
LUIS
Oh my god!
JAMES
Here honey, try this.
LUCY
It tastes rather familiar.
LUIS
I can’t believe this is happening to me.
JAMES
Do you think its blow?
LUCY
What’s blow?
(LUIS whispers under his breath.)
LUIS
Probably what you were doing when you last tasted that.
LUCY
What was that young man?
LUIS
Ah, nothing mom.
JAMES
Maybe, we should take this to the police and have them analyze it.
LUIS
Dad, if I tell you I’m doing drugs would you stop tasting that.
JAMES
I knew it! You’re on drugs!
LUIS
No, but I wish I was right now.
LUCY
You know that tastes so familiar…where have I tasted that before…hmmm…
JAMES
Yeah, I could swear I tasted that before too.
LUIS
Jesus fucking Christ why me, why did you do this to me?
JAMES
Luis, isn’t it bad enough already that your doing drugs. Must you take our lords name in vain.
LUCY
Where did we go wrong, He used to be such a great child? Now look at him, doing drugs, and taking the lords name in vain.
JAMES
We have to do something; next he might try to hold up a liquor store to buy these drugs.
LUIS
Dad! Please stop tasting that!
JAMES
Oh yeah, I shouldn’t destroy the evidence.
LUCY
James, what are you doing taking those drugs! Now I know where he got it from!
JAMES
What are you talking about? I’ve never done drugs in my life!
LUIS
I need some whiskey.
LUCY
Oh my we’re too late!
LUIS
Maybe I should just commit suicide.
LUCY
That’s it you’re going to military school young man!
LUIS
Thank god, I can finally be an open dendrophiliac.
(Parents storm out of room, LUIS begins to pack and makes goggle eyes at his bonsai tree.)
