ADDENDUM B CHENIES STREET CHAMBERS ORIGINAL FEATURES IN CHENIES STREET CHAMBERS (FOR FUTURE REFERENCE)
Chenies Street Chambers was purpose-built as a Dwelling for Professional Ladies in 1888. The women occupants in the 1891 census list their professions as musician, lecturer, physician, artist, etc. and included one of the pioneer thinkers on the theory of Penal Reform. The building was bombed during the Second World War and rebuilt, so that many of the original features (including the Main Entrance, which was on Chenies Street) have been lost. The few features that remain, including remnants of the chapel in the basement, complete with pillars, should be preserved.
BASEMENT: Flats 1,2,3 are in the original part of the building (not damaged by bombing). Any ornamental mouldings above doors, and door frames are to be preserved Ceiling to be preserved with the original panels pillars to be preserved floor to be preserved
