Chenies Street Chambers was one
of a series of buildings in our neighbourhood bombed on April 17th, 1941.
The incendiary bomb hit our building at 2:56 in the morning. No one was injured
or killed, but the damage from the fire was considered so great that it was
recommended Chenies Street Chambers not be rebuilt. Note the surviving plaque
on the building (AD 1888) and the turret tower feature (both of which are
featured in the original print of the building, circa 1888). The photograph
was taken on April 30th 1941, facing Northwest, from the top of what was
Puller's Dye Works (now the RADA building) showing our building along Chenies
Street.
