Pulling of the gate scratches away the layer of paint, therefore the the connecting areas are corroded much more seriously.

The rough surface causes difficulty in pulling. Rusting in those areas could cause structural problem to the gate.

Re-painting plus adding oil is suggested to prevent further rusting. Adding oil helps the gate to work smoothly.
