ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS PROGRAMME The Society organized National Enviromental
Awareness Programme on on INTERNATIONAL FRESHWATER YEAR 2003 Society For Chemical observed International Freshwater Year 2003 on 5 November, 2003 in Marigaon College, Nagaon, Assam, India in collaboration with Marigaon College. The freshwater year was observed with a day long programme of essay competition in which thirty five students from schools participated. A quiz competition also was organized with Dr.Hitesh Barman of Nalbari College as quiz master. A meeting was held presided by the principal of the college where Prof. Krishnagopal Bhattacharyya, Dean of Faculty of Science and head of the chemistry department of Gauhati Univesity as well as president of Society For Chemical Education focussed on freshwater for sustainable development. Prof.Pabitra Kumar Sarma highlighted the significance of reshwater year emphasizing drinking water for which he considers rainwater harvesting as better than other sources. He also focussed on National Water Policy 2002 of Govt. of India and Dushanbe Declaration on International Frshwater year held from 26 August to 2 Septemer at Dushanbe, Tajikistan.. Prof. Saibal Kanti Bhattacharyya, former head of the department of chemistry, Gauhati University discussed on issues related to science and technology for human welfare. The day was concluded by presentation of awards to essay and quiz winners. |
