Atom Scanvenger Hunt
The Atom Scavenger hunt:

Your assignment is to introduce yourselves to the concept of the atom. You may use any books or resources you would like to find your information.

YOU MUST REFERENCE YOUR WORK. This means, that after you find and write the answer to your question, you must write down the name of the BOOK, CHAPTER, & PAGE or place where you found the information. This is an important skill in science. Your Homework is incomplete without it

The goal is to have all the questions answered and placed in an outline form for your use to study.

Please finish this on a separate piece of paper.

Good Luck to you!

Mr. W

1. What is an atom, and how is it different than an element?
2. Though an atom is tiny, there are 3 smaller parts (subatomic particles) that make up the atom, what are their names?
3. Two of these subatomic particles are located together inside the atom. Which 2 particles are they, what is the special name for the place they are found.
4. The last particle of the atom is located alone. It is not found with the 2 particles from question 3. What is the name of this particle, and where can I find it in an atom?
5. 2 of the 3 sub atomic particles of the atom have an electric charge (positive or negative) like a magnet. Which particle has a positive charge, which has a negative charge?
6. Based on size, 2 of the 3 particles have the same mass. Which ones have the same mass, and which one has the least mass?
