TROPICAL STORM ERNESTO SINKS THE KRUSTY KRAB ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2006
Tropical Storm Ernesto
It wasn't even a hurricane, only a tropical storm.  But, the son of a bitch rolled right over coastal Carolina.  Look at that eye: right over the New River!  It spawned a water spout that threw the Krusty Krab into the dock, holing her stern.
To make matters worse, the boat next to me broke free and rammed the KK head on, splitting the seam at the bow.  That bow damage was what ultimately made the boat unrepairable.

I got to the marina at 7:30am.  The Krusty Krab was still afloat although the damage to the bow was obvious, she didn't look like she was in any real danger of sinking.
I went to check other boat which had broken free and some that were damaged.  See the dock picture at left.
The boat next to mine (far right of the picture), 4 Peas in a Pod, a Silverton 40, also sank from damages.
She went down at 8:45am on Sept 1st
Upon tying off a couple boats, I ran back over to the Krusty Krab to further assess the damage.  I noticed that the boot stripe was lower in the water...not good.
I jumped aboard, knee deep water and turned on the bilge pump.
5 minutes later, she was still lower.
I found the crack in the stern and tried to plug it (unsucessfully).
Finally, I had no recourse, I jumped aboard and started throwing things off.  It was all over except the salvage!
First priority was to get off the engine, fuel, and all oils.  Didn't want the Coast Guard or EPA after me.  Second was all electrical items that I could get off without unscrewing items.  I cut wires and removed brackets as fast as I could.
When it was all over, I lost about $1,000 of personal property and the boat (bluebook was $7,500).  And, get this; the insurance wouldn't pay a penny.
They said my boat was covered for wind, water, etc, but not for being struck by another vessel.  They claimed the boat that hit me should pay since it did the damage.  He had no insurance!
