Chapter 7 from TJ:

"Oh, it's not that I was just wishing I had brought my camera, you
know for posterity." With that she winked and they both began to
laugh all over again. It wasn't until they heard someone behind
them clear their throat that they stopped and turned around.

"Oh, my gosh! It's like a reunion tonight! I can't believe you're
here!"  Amanda wondered if everyone from their past would show up tonight.  “Elisa, it’s so good to see you again.”

“Yes, I’m sure it is.  Lee, you’re looking dashing as ever.”  She leaned up and kissed him on his cheek, her lips lingering a little too long.

Lee stepped backward,  “Elisa Danton.  I didn’t expect to see you here tonight.”

“Old Smythy invited me.  Something about adding a little culture to the drab surroundings.”  She turned to Amanda.  “You will spare Lee for a dance won’t you, Amanda dear?”

Amanda pasted a smile on her face.  “Of course, darling.”  Elisa was fully aware that Lee was off the market, but she still couldn’t help but not trust that the woman would try to get her claws back into him.  She glanced sideways at Lee; he was such a wonderful specimen of man.  She was amazed sometimes that he was all hers.

“Are you staying in the hotel tonight?  I couldn’t believe that the staff couldn’t get the penthouse for me.  I know it had been booked for three months, but the 6th floor.  I don’t think I’ve ever stayed on such a low floor.”  Elisa apparently saw someone over their shoulder that was more important to talk to than Lee and Amanda because with hastily given goodbyes she was off, waving and calling out to some tuxedo clad man just inside the door to the Agency party.

Lee placed his hand in the small of her back and began to lead her into the Agency party.  “Now that she’s gone, let’s see if we can get onto the dance floor without any more interruptions.”

“Lee, the 6th floor?”

“I know, I know.  I was pretending I didn’t hear that.”

“How are we going to get up to the room without anyone seeing us?”

“Hey, don’t forget who you’re talking too.  I’ve broken into quite a few heavily populated places without being detected.  Just stick by me.”

Amanda turned in his arm, her face within inches of his.  “Don’t worry, I plan to stick very close to you tonight.”

“Hmmmm.  You know, if we sneak up to the room now, we won’t see anyone upstairs.”  His arms encircled her small waist.

“I thought you wanted to dance?”

“We can do a little horizontal tango in our room.”  Lee wiggled his eyebrows.

“No matter how wonderful that sounds.  Don’t you think it might be a little too obvious if we leave now?  There’s still quite a bit of time before midnight.”

“Why do you have to be so logical? Okay, if we can’t tango upstairs, how about a dance down here with your husband?”

“I think I can settle for that.”

“I can’t wait to dance with this sexy woman in my arms.  Did I tell you how absolutely gorgeous you look tonight?”

“Yes, but I don’t mind if you tell me again.  I picked out this gown just for you.  I hope you approve. “

“Hell yeah, I approve.  Let me just say that I’m very glad I got us a room tonight.  I don’t think I could handle the drive home.”  They were now on the dance floor.  Lee held her against his chest and continued speaking in her ear, his warm breath tickled her neck as they danced.  “Seeing all that leg when you sat in the car.  I almost swung by the apartment first.”

“Well then, just wait till you see what’s underneath.”   Amanda got what she wanted with that comment, his breath sucked in and his hand pressed her closer to himself.  Not an inch of space was between them.

A nasally voice interrupted their foreplay on the dance floor.

“Lee, Amanda, looky here. “Ephraim dangled a set of keys in front of their faces.  I’ve finally worn her down.  Persistency’s the key. Francine said she’d meet me back here in a few minutes.  Have you seen her?”

Lee and Amanda looked at each other.  Did they dare tell Beaman where they saw Francine, or what she was doing?

“Oh, never mind.  There she is.”  He ran off across the ballroom calling out for Francine.

“Amanda, did he just call her Sugar Plum?”

“Yes, I think he did.  Did you see the keys he had?”

“Yeah, looks like the poor sot might actually score tonight.”

“Lee, did you really look at the keys?”

Lee pulled her back enough that they could look into each other’s eyes.  “What do you mean?”

“The key ring said room 643.”

“Oh no.  Right across the hall.  We’ll worry about that later.  Right now, I want to dance with my wife.”

“My pleasure, big fella.”

“Oh no. Believe me, the pleasure’s all mine.”
