"Lee where were you?"
He reached her side and put his arm around her waist. "I had to take care
of an important mission," he whispered into her ear.
"What?" Her curiosity was peaked.
"This." He said grinning, as he dangled a hotel key in front of her.
The idea of spending the night at the hotel hadn't even crossed Amanda's mind.
She was glad Lee thought of it. It'd been at least a week since the two of them
had been together. Work, family, and this ridiculous mystery marriage had kept
them from having any significant time together. A mischievous smile crept onto
her face as she thought of how this evening was going to turn out. Lee was even
more irresistible in a tuxedo and from the moment she laid eyes on him this
evening she knew she couldn't hold out any longer to be with him.
"Shall I assume by that smile on your face that you approve, Mrs. Stetson?"
Suddenly aware of her surroundings, Amanda quickly grabbed the key from his
hand
and took a quick look around the room.
"Lee, what if someone sees us? You know, sneaking off up into the
hotel?"
"Amanda, no one is going to pay any attention to us. They're all too busy
drinking and having a good time to worry about where we might be and what we
most definitely will be doing, " he insisted, winking at her.
"Besides, I'm not
quite ready to end our evening here at the party just yet. I thought it might
be
fun to sneak into a few of the other parties going on here tonight."
"Oh really, and what party did you have in mind as if I didn't know?"
"Well, I just so happened to be walking by the room where Rebecca's
Fantasies is
being held and took a quick peek in the door. I saw the most amazing . . .
"
"There you are Lee! I have been looking all over for you, " exclaimed
Trixi.
"Oh, hi Amanda."
Amanda smiled politely. "Trixi."
"Did you find your contact lens Lee?"
"Uhhh, yeah. Funny thing, it was in my eye the whole time."
Just as Trixi was about to drag Lee back into the ballroom to continue where
they had left off John Kettering from Crypto tapped her on the shoulder and
asked if she wanted to dance.
As Trixi put her arm around John's waist and began to walk away she shouted,
"Well, enjoy your evening you two. I know I will!"
Amanda looked up at Lee and shook her head in disbelief. "I think that
woman is
on a mission of her own tonight."
"I think you're right, " he replied as he let out a laugh.
"There's just one thing I'm confused about."
"What's that?" He asked as he pulled her close to him once again and
stole a
quick kiss.
"You don't wear contact lenses, Stetson."
"Oh that. That was just to get rid of Trixi. She would've had me pinned up
against a wall somewhere if I hadn't done something to get away from her."
"Pinned up against a wall, eh? Not a bad idea. I may have to try that
approach
later on tonight."
"Promise?"
Giving him a knowing look and a quick wink, she grabbed his hand, " Come on,
I
want at least one dance with my husband tonight."
After a few dances and just as many glasses of champagne, Lee convinced Amanda
to check out the other parties. As they walked down the hall nonchalantly
looking into each of the rooms, a voice from behind made them stop.
"Hey Lee, Mrs. King, how ya doin? This place is great, don't you think?
What are
you guys doing here anyway?"
At first Amanda wasn't sure who she was looking at. Before them stood a six
feet
tall rabbit, not counting the ears. In the most hideous color of pink she had
ever seen. Lee was the first to say anything.
"Oh my God! Auggie! What the hell are you doing here and why are you
dressed
like... THAT? Wait, don't tell me. Let me guess, you're with that group of
weirdos in the next room."
"Now Lee, I would think with a past like yours you would know all about
these
people I'm with. Actually word on the street is you used to frequent these
parties quit a bit back in the 70's."
Feeling his face getting redder by each of Auggie's words, he shoved Auggie to
the side and stepped between him and Amanda. "Uh Amanda, why don't I meet
you
back in our ballroom. I need to have a few words with my good buddy here."
As she turned to walk away she could over hear Lee asking Auggie why it was
whenever he was looking for him he could never find him, but when he was the
last person he wanted to run into he showed up. She laughed to herself. Lee had
some explaining to do when he got back.
As her mind began to wander to thoughts of the great Scarecrow dressed in some
fuzzy animal costume she didn't noticed the girl backing her way out of the
ballroom hosting the body builders association party. Amanda ran right smack
into her and nearly knocked herself into a table situated next to the entrance.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. Are you okay," asked Amanda. She
recognized the girl
from earlier when her and TP went to taste test some of his famous eclairs. It
was Miranda. Just as she started to wonder if the poor girl got to taste any of
the cheesecake she had been after, she noticed Miranda's face. There was
something smeared all around her mouth. She wasn't sure what it was, but hoped
it was cream from some pastry. Taking mental note of which ballroom she was
standing in front of she gave her a confused look.
"Sure, I'm fine. I hope I didn't hurt you. I wasn't looking where I was
going.
You see, there is this fine looking man in there that I just had to meet. So my
friend and I snuck in to try and meet him. Except when we got in there we saw
that the guys had raided the pastry clubs party and stole some eclairs. Well,
since my friend and I are on a diet she freaked and bolted out of the room
saying something about the sins of desserts. Well honey let me tell you, I
didn't mind sinning one bit to get a shot at this hottie."
Amanda was amazed at this woman's ability to say all of that in one breath. She
thought she was the only one that could talk like that. Miranda continued to go
on and on about finally meeting the guy she was after. Amanda just left her
talk. Nodding politely and smiling. She wondered what was taking Lee so long,
and what he was doing to poor Auggie.
"So anyway, one thing lead to another and . . ."
Cutting her off mid-sentence Amanda observed, "Oh my, is that what is all
over
your face? If you'll excuse me I really need to get back to my party."
"All over my face?" Reaching up she rubbed her hand over her face and
found
white cream on her fingers. "OHHHH, this is cream from the eclairs. They
were so
good. I hadn't had sweets in so long. I couldn't help myself." She paused
long
enough to notice the look on Amanda's face again.
Amanda stared at the woman's creamed covered fingers.
"You didn't think it was....," taking a deep breath and shielding her
eyes in
embarrassment she said, "No! I wouldn't do anything like that. Well, at
least
not in there, in front of everyone. I mean, it really was all very innocent.
Nothing happened."
Amanda just looked at her and smiled, "Whatever you say dear, it's none of
my
business. I really must be going. My date must be looking for me by now. Have a
good evening, and I hope you get your cheesecake."
Wondering how she knew about the cheesecake Miranda giggled and replied,
"Thanks, so do I. How did you know?"
Amanda never heard Miranda's question as a group of body builders seperated
them
coming out of the room. She headed back towards the ballroom where the Agency
party was in full swing. She heard laughter and the clinking of glasses as she
neared the room. Just as she was about to enter an arm reached around her waist
and grabbed her from behind.
Who's next?
