2003 CFFL Pre-Pre Season Mock Draft
Once again, out of pure boredom and anticipation for the upcoming 2003 season, I've decided to go ahead and conduct a mock draft. This is what I think might happen come September (when the real thing takes place). Obvioulsy any decent unprotected free agents will alter the make up of our draft somewhat, but for this purpose I'm pretending that we would only have the option to draft rookies.

Feel free to offer your two cents.

1. AC BILLS SELECTION
Charles Rogers, WR, Michigan State
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: The Bills were by far the worst team in the league last year and need help in almost every area save for the quarterback position. For this reason, they take the player who will probably make the biggest impact in his first year.

2. BEARS SELECTION
Andre Johnson, WR Miami
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: There is a temptation for the Bears to take a runningback here but their glaring need to upgrade the WR position forces this pick. Like Rogers, Johnson should start in his first season and will be David Carr's go to guy.

3. BLADES SELECTION
Larry Johnson, RB Penn State
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: This could be a hot spot. Don't be surprised if the Blades try to move out of this spot. With no desperate need at any position they could look into trading this pick for 2 or 3 later round selections. If not, they go with Johnson, who should be Priest Holmes' backup for at least the first year.

4. BRONCOS SELECTION
Carson Palmer, QB USC
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: With both wide receivers off the board Palmer is the safest pick for the Broncos. They can afford to wait for him to develop.

5. REDSKINS SELECTION-(from Blades/Booty Crew)
Byron Leftwich, QB Marshall
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: A no brainer here. He's the best player on the board and starter Rich Gannon isn't getting any younger. Leftwich could be the Reskins franchise in a year or two.

6. SMOKE SELECTION
Bryant Johnson, WR Penn State
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: Having Galloway and Coles as starters isn't all that bad but there aren't any runningbacks left worthy of a first round pick so the Smoke take the speedy Johnson who should start immediately in Arizona.

7. BREAKERS SELECTION-(from 49ers)
Kyle Boller, QB CAL
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: The BallBreakers would love to see Leftwhich still available here but that could be wishful thinking. Instead, they go with Boller who will need a year or two but should be ready just about the time Brunnell is ready for the golf course.

8. COWBOYS SELECTION
Dallas Clark, TE Iowa
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: After losing Tony Gonzalez last year, the Cowboys could fill that hole with Clark who is a superb pass catching tightend. However, if one of the top runningbacks fall here, they'll grab whoever it may be to backup Hearst or Faulk.

9. REDSKINS SELECTION
Taylor Jacobs, WR Florida
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: This will a tough decison to go with Jacobs. He's the best WR left on the board and he plays for Washington, two reasons why the Redskins will select him with their second pick in round one.

10. 49ERS SELECTION-(from Chiefs)
Willis McGahey, RB Miami
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: After trading for Steve McNair in the off season, the newest addition to the CFFL take a chance on a player that might not even see the field this year, but who could pay big dividends in 2004.

11. MARI MEN SELECTION
Musa Smith, RB Georgia
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: The defending Capital Bowl champions are a solid team so they can afford to look to the future. Smith will backup the often injured Jamal Lewis in Baltimore and could get decent playing time in year one.

12. STEELERS SELECTION
Onterrio Smith, RB Oregon
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: Another solid team that can look past the 2003 season with its first pick. Smith is a great open field runner that can hit the home run. This selection also provides insurance for starter Michael Bennett.

13. BREAKERS SELECTION
Justin Fargas, RB USC
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: He certainly doesn't fill a hole but he could be a great addition for next season. Fargas has been compared to former Vikings runningback Robert Smith.

14. PACKERS SELECTION
Rex Grossman, QB Florida
Andre Rochon, CFFL Commissioner: Oh how the Packers would love to see Larry Johnson fall to them here but that won't happen so they take the best player available and use it to back up starter Peyton Manning.
