| "Cursed" Girl, All Grown Up, Returns to Necro City | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sara Anders, age 24, has returned to Necro City for the first time since her father and brother died in a fluke car accident 15 years ago. But this isn't just a pleasure trip for Sara. She's returning to donate to the Necro City Museum of Natural History a collection of books that does little to help her get away from her "cursed" image. "When my dad died, I was sent to live with my aunt in Massachusetts. My aunt was a little weird, into New Age-type stuff," Sara explains. "But when I turned 13, she gave me these books. They were remarkable." The books were a collection of the stories of the lives of all the women in Sara's family dating back to colonial times. They chronicle the women's practice of Wicca or witchcraft, and each book is part diary, part rescipe book, part spellbook, and part almanac. "I really had no idea my mom, and grandmother -- all the women of my family really -- were witches. It's bizzare, but the books are a treasure trove of information. They are first-hand historical accounts of early American life. They're priceless." Ander's who did her unergraduate at the University of Mass., Dartmouth, just finished her graduate studies in Anthropology and Archaeology at Amherst. She has returned the books to Necro City, where, according to Ander's, the women of her family grew up. |
The books are a donation the the museum's ancient manuscripts collection, of which incidently, Ander's herself is slated to become the new curator. "I like ancient books! What can I say. Besides, you don't think I'd let these babies too far out of my sight!" When asked about the family curse, Sara could only say, "There's no such thing as curses. And while Wicca is a perfectly valid religion practiced all over the world, there's really no such thing as witches with cauldrons and brooms either." |
