Helterbrand

                            What can I say about this family?

It is a very mixed up one for sure. This kind of family is what makes genealogy fun. Sorting out all the mixed families is very challenging.
They intermarried quite a bit. They lived around the Adams Co. Ohio and I believe the Pike Co. Ohio areas.

The problem I am having with this family is Levi and Elizabeth Helterbrand and who their parents are.

                      They were married 03 Sept. 1840
                      in Pike Co. Ohio.

                           6. James
                           7. Noah

Some say Levi's parents are Daniel and Sarah (Grooms) Helterbrand.
and others say his parents are Soloman and Dorcas (Shanks) Helterbrand.

Some say Elizabeth's parents are Soloman and Dorcas (Shanks) Helterbrand and others say her parents are Daniel and Sarah (Grooms) Helterbrand. Soloman and Daniel were brothers. Their parents were, Philip Helterbrand and Elizabeth Lear.

I have just recieved a copy of Elizabeth's death certificate and it clearly states Soloman and Dorcus as her parents.

Levi and Elizabeth were cousins as you probably have figured out by now.

Who is correct?

Well I have talked to one person that says the marriage certificate for Levi and Elizabeth states that

               Levi is the son of Daniel and Sarah and
               Elizabeth is the daughter of Soloman and Dorcas

I have not seen this certificate, but I plan on getting a copy of it soon.
