Declawing

Pretty Bar

I decided shortly after we were given Cassious that he would eventually have to have his claws removed. He was tearing up the furniture, as well as our arms and legs through playing. I really had to think long and hard on this one, because I had all four of his paws declawed. I know that may sound extreme, but I decided that there was no way that this cat would be an outside cat. As a result, I know that this cat will never be able to go out at his leisure, however, I also know that Cassious is happy here inside the apartment.

I definitely recommend that anyone considering the declawing of a cat think on this matter before proceeding. I also recommend that should you decide to get your cat declawed, have a few days worth of newspapers. A newly declawed cat cannot use regular cat litter, the dust could get into the wounds and cause an infection, instead use shredded newspaper in a clean litter box. This may seem like a lot of trouble, but remember, this cat is now dependant on you for the rest of it's life.

Cassious was very grumpy, and slightly dopey when we brought him back from the veterinarian, but he recovered quickly, with no real problems. Although Cassious still occasionally sharpens his non-existent claws, this is more habit than anything else.

Cassious :)
