9/15/05 - With a great thanks to our Angel Flights Pilots we made it to Iowa City, IA for a second opinion with Dr. Ponseti!!! They truly are angels, we would have not made it here without there help, patience, and generosity. We will never forget what they all did for us and are truly thankful for them.
9/16/05 - Dr. Ponseti does not think Collin needs any of the items or process I discribed in his 3/05 update! Yipee!!! We are so happy we followed are insticts once again and saved Collin for the 1 year + process he would have had to gone through with his last doctor. We were supposed to come in Thursday and fly home Sunday. However, Dr. Ponseti is going to treat Collin with a few casts and a tibia transfer surgery, then another cast I think. We will find out more this week on the time frame, but for now the Ronald McDonald House is our new home. He is in a long leg corrective cast now.
Collin had 3 corrective long legs plaster casts. He broke his 3rd cast in a day, so he ended up with a blue fiberglass overlay on his cast.
9/30/05 - Collin had tibia transfer surgery and planter fascia at the University of Iowa Hospital. He woke up in a long leg figberglass cast. He will wear the cast for 6 weeks. Then we will followup in Iowa in 6 monts from now. Collin will no longer need any special braces during the day or the night.
10/4/05 - We are back home!!! Our scheduled trip of 3 nights turned into 18 nights, but it was well worth any sacrafice we have made and we are glad we did the "best" we could possible do for Collin, we will not have to ever worry about second guessing our decision because we went to the best place to have him treated.
10/17/05 - Collin is doing good! He is still in his cast and getting ready for Halloween! His cast is bright orange so he looks very festive! We think his cast will come off around November 11th!!!!
11/11/05 - We took Collin to have his cast removed today!!! It will probably take some time for him to be able to walk again, but he is happy to have his cast off!!! I'll put a photo below!! He went to Shriners in Philadelphia to have it removed, and will return to Iowa in March or April of 2006 for a follow-up visit at the University of Iowa.
12/10/05 - Collin is doing good, he is walking again on his own. He will be running in no time!!
3/30/06 - Collin returned to Iowa for his 6 month follow up appoinment from his surgery on 9/30/05. Dr. Ponseti and Dr. Morcuende both agree Collin's foot looks great and that he is doing well. They both are very pleased with the results to date. Collin does not have to return for a check up now for a whole year!!! We have been waiting to hear good news like that since he was born!!!!! Since Collin's surgery he has participated in a soccer clinic, swim classes and T-ball (not all at once but between Febuary - May 2006. He has a plan to try just about every sport out there, I'm trying to keep up with him and let him pick one at a time) and he is running around great! He can't wait for T-ball to be over so he can participate in a hockey clinic during the summer. And he starts kindegarden in September!!!
