Accountability Associations

An accountability association is an organization operated by homeschoolers that provides a means of legal compliance for its members under SC homeschool statutes 59-65-45 (SCAIHS) and 59-65-47 (all others).  Each organization  has its own policies and membership fees.

Note:  Many homeschool families in SC choose to join a local support group in addition to an accountability association.  Support groups generally provide personal contact with other homeschool families, while an accountability association provides for record keeping requirements, and in some cases other services. Generally there is not a duplication of activity between a support group and an accountability association.

 Upstate Support Groups

Support groups are parents (or legal guardians) committed to providing information and practical help that addresses the concerns of homeschooling parents. Most offer curricular advice, support meetings, field trips, classes, and other varied activities. Membership in a support group does not constitute compliance with SC homeschool laws; members of a support group also need to choose an option such as an accountability association, or approval of a local school district as specified in 59-65-40, 59-65-45, or 59-65-47.
