Onset: 5 to 72 hours

Duration: 12 - 36 hours, 1-4 days

Symptoms: diarrhea, abdominal pain, chills, fever

Typical Foods: raw or undercooked eggs, raw milk, undercooked meat and poultry. Also sliced melons, sliced tomatoes, raw sprouts and other fresh produce.

Contamination Source: infected food handler, animals, and human feces.

Prevention: cook eggs, meat, and poultry thoroughly, pasteurize milk.
