| I had a chance to sit down and chat with frontman and drummer Bob Clark of The Almost Nuts Band right before they started their show at Charley's Crab Shack here in Bluffton, S.C. I had to ask myself before sitting across from this guy dressed in red long-johns and a bathrobe with his thinning hair sticking up all over his head whether or not this guy really was nuts or not. Conclusion: probably not. Bob and his band just like to put on a good, nasty, sexy, off-the-wall show that's guaranteed to get the audience involved. There was a lot of hootin' n' hollerin' going on during show-time to attest to this fact. What exactly does an Almost Nuts show entail? Well, let's see....inbetween some great cover songs that go from Doobie Brothers to Bob Segar to Creed to Garth Brooks, we get to hear Bob get the audience going by asking if their are any assholes in the club. Then he asks if there are any bitches in the club. Then he asks if their are any Dirty Bitches in the club. Well, as you could very well guess, these loud and boisterous exhaltations for response get the audience stirred up a bit. Then, he offers to give away free t-shirts to any females who will agree to come up to the front and face the band whilst removing their shirts and bras. The numerous, multi-colored bras that festoon his drum kit will attest to the fact that quite a few ladies succumb to his manic exaltations. And you can bet that the onlooking guys don't mind a bit. Hell, I sure didn't. As to the music....great bar-band covers that might surprise you done up by a great quartet of talented musicians. Bruce Bickley on keyboards sounds great and lends his vocals to the country music arena. Guitarist Blake Berkley lends his vocals to the more modern rock songs and plays a killer set of hooks, and for as far as Bob goes, he's a great front-man and drummer who sings most of the classic rock songs that are the majority of their set. But, Bob not only sings...He's the main shit-stirrer, and with his rebel-yell, redneck carrying on, he'll have you laughing out loud in no time. Oh, and they have a bubble machine. |
