| HANK WILLIAMS SNAPSHOTS FROM THE LOST HIGHWAY Colin Escott and Kira Florita De Capo Press 207 Pages |
| After they pulled Hank William's body from out of the back of the touring car he was traveling to another show in, they found a scrap of paper that had fallen from his hand on the floorboard that contained the scribbling of probably the last song he ever wrote. The song wasn't complete, but it's words did contain elements of what was on his mind at the time of his demise. A photograph of this final song can be found inside the new book "Hank Williams, Snap Shots From The Lost Highway". This snap shot is just one amazing addition to this wonderful collection of photographs, letters, hand-written song lyrics (most never before recorded nor published) and other artifacts. This compendium goes a lot further in it's own concrete way to help one understand who Hank Williams really was, in ways no biography would be able to. It also contains many reminisces from a great many folks who knew him as well as personal accounts from his son Hank Williams Jr. and his daughter Jett Williams. Featuring over 300 images taken from the collections of Marty Stuart, Hank Williams Jr. and Jett Williams, the work runs chronologically and features the only known baby picture of Hank, and also pictures from his funeral. In-between, we get childhood photos, pictures of him taken with his earliest band incarnations, chronicles of his family life, and pictures from the road. Also featured are recording contracts, checks that tell of his spending habits, and letters from his manager Fred Rose trying to get him to straighten up and lay off the drink that was to eventually help to do him in. All in all, this is a journey into Hank's life as it really was. Filled with just plain truths as captured by the snap shot. English born music historian Colin Escott, (who also penned a definitive biography of Hank) and Nashville marketer and producer Kira Florita have done a remarkable job on this work. Together with the Country Music Foundation they also previously co-produced the 10 CD box-set entitled "The Complete Hank Williams". |
