Hey, my name's Asha! I'm an 18-year-old girl/young lady/college student/camp counselor/smiling daughter/good friend that you may or may not know. For those who do know me, you'd probably say "Ah yes, Asha is a freshman at Washington University in St. Louis where she plans to major in computer science. She enjoys running, eating brownies, and talking on the computer. She's a Taurus and doesn't drink alcohol". Those of you who don't know me would respond with something like "Sounds nice". Well, I guess there's more to me than my sign and my favorite dessert. So, I'll try and list off some interesting facts about myself that even those of you who know me may have not been aware of.
- As a baby, I had lazy eye and I had to get eye surgery when I was two years old. I've been wearing glasses ever since.
- When I was a toddler, I used to have a Somali accent, but because I never really learned the language from my dad it soon faded away. Now I have difficulty pronouncing certain things when I try and repeat after my dad.
- When I was a kid I took karate lessons (even went to karate camp two years in a row), was a girl scout, played softball, basketball, tennis, and did swimming, horseback riding, and gymnastics. I quit all of these things except for softball before I was like 13. I quit softball sophomore year of high school to start doing track and cross-country.
- Before my freshman year of high school, I wrote a letter to Johns Hopkins University's president and asked him to give funding for a new course at my summer camp, CMST (Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology). JHU and the National Space Consortium each donated 5K and we got a new class called Space Medicine Research and Technology the following summer.
- I've been on three cruises in my life. The first when I was 11 or so, we went to Jamaica-Costa Rica-Colombia-Aruba, the second a year later in Alaska, and the third just last summer in Tampa-Grand Cayman-Cozumel-New Orleans. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. ;-)
- The longest book I've ever read was The Poisonwood Bible, which was 534 pages long - plus I read the introduction!
- I'm really afraid of spiders. I also can be claustraphobic and afraid of heights depending on how I'm feeling that day.
- Once when I was about ten I ate all of the Halloween candy that we had to give out before the trick-or-treaters came. I got so sick from all of that chocolate that I couldn't go trick-or-treating myself.
- I know the lyrics to virtually every song ever recorded and released by the Beatles. I can oftentimes name albums, years, and who wrote what.
- I used to have a gerbil named Poof; it died after about 3 years. I also had two fish, a goldfish from a carnival and a beta fish for my sixteenth birthday. Both died in a matter of days.
- Once in gym class freshman year of high school, a friend and I did leg presses of something over 600 pounds in the universal room. I told a bunch of people this and most of the guys didn't believe me.
Well, those are just a few little known facts about me. Enjoy the rest of my site, and ask me any questions in the form below. Take it easy!
